Show BILL NOW GOES TO sum ACTION Moffat Tunnel Measure Passes Lower House of Colorado Legislature. DENVER, Colo.. April 7. The house, by a vote of 35 ayes to 30 noes, today passed tho Moffat tunnel bill. Tho measure meas-ure now goea to the senate for action. The bill authorizes the state, to issue bonds to the amount of 54.000,000 to be used in tho construction of a tunnel through the Rocky mountain range at James peak. The tunnel will he used bv the Denver. Northwestern & Pacific railroad, known as the Moffat road. The road is to put up a bond guaranteeing tho state against loss. A commission of five, consisting ot the governor, stale treasurer and attorney at-torney general, they to name two others. Is provided for. the commission to have cliarge of the arrangements for building the tunnel. The provision most sharply fought waa that in which the road guarantees to build either to Salt Lake City or Dot-"ero. Dot-"ero. a point on tho Denver & Wo Grande. Ibis latter provision, it was contended, meant that the road would never be constructed con-structed to Salt Lake City, but would build to Dotsero and form part of the Denver & Rio Grande system. |
