Willi the arrival f several carloads of ptllim. stringers and caps, and an Improved plledrlver with a saw attachment, which is being constructed con-structed especially for the purpose, the work on t lie double-track trestle over the Lucin cut-off across the Great Salt Lake will be begun by ihe Southern tJa-clllc. tJa-clllc. The work on the cut-off will include the laying of a nestle one mile In length from the west end of the present trestle to the fill which extends east from the west side of the. lake. This (111 will be raised to the same grade as the trestle. The till has settled about live feet on the last live-mile stretch since It was first built. This- fact has been responsible for the damage which usually results after the heavy storms which sweep the lake. When the big improvement work begins, Lakeside will be the headquarters for the work trains, at which point several steam snvels are now being installed to handle the rock and gravel from the railroad rail-road company's gravel pit. This improvement on the cut-off. with tho work which will be carried on by the Southern Parilie at other points on the Salt Lake division this summer, will aggregate ag-gregate a cost of $1,500,000. |
