Show '1 MANHATTAN CLUB 1 The members of the .Manhattan Athletic Ath-letic club were given a rare treat in amateur boxing Monday night at the gymnasium of the club. There wero six contests, although ono bout was called off before the first round was over. The surprise of the evening came In I the first bout, when Kid Davis outboxed Mlckie Sullivan. Davis showed marked improvement, although he had an elderly elder-ly gentleman outside of the ropes doing do-ing half the fighting. Some said that It was the boy's father. At any rate, he wok the happiest man at the club when both his boys "brought home lli ha con." Slugger Gallagher is well named, and If anvono doubts his ability as a boxer, ask Kid Williams. Tho latter was besl-cd besl-cd In two rounds. , Kid Meyers of Murray ran into a buzz saw when be met Tommy Gethins and lost Ihe decision In four rounds of clever boxing. The elderly gentleman was "pulling" for Gethins. Poor Jimmie lawless tried to imitate the wild man from Borneo. He got his wires crossed in the third round by a light tap from "Weary Willie (colored). Lawless tried to smllo and da rice at the same time, and tried to grab every colored col-ored man In tho place. It was the best vaudeville- stunt pulled oft at the club so far. Kid Frazzles and Earn Wright Were put on too soon after New Years. The men were sick, and plainly showed it In tho first round of a. scheduled four-round co. and Manager Downing excused tho boys for refreshments. Fred Ern was put on with Cyclone Lefty and ' tho boys put tip the best, match of the evening, boxing four rounds to a di-aw. |
