Show i IT IS BIGOTRY-BOUND. The church organ last night gave expression ex-pression to a favorable opinion of the New Year's edition of The Tribune. It considers that tho matter was comprehensive, com-prehensive, woll presented, and care fully propared. But it modifies its good opiuion by saying: "Except for its huso misrepresentations of tho conditions condi-tions in Salt Lake and Utah owing to its ovor apparent bitterness and hostility hos-tility to tho Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, tho edition is ono of which the publishers may bo proud." Tho discontent thus expressed is merely tho discontent of blind prejudice preju-dice and bigotry. There was no misrepresentation, mis-representation, base or otherwise Thoro is novor any bitterness or hostility to tho Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter-day Saints expressed in The Tribune. Wc do oppose, of course, tho lawlessness, lawless-ness, the civic usurpations, the robberies, robber-ies, the graft, and the political and commercial dominanco of the leaders of the Mormon church. Wo object to their claim of tomporal rule, and dony their right to compel their people to vote in a given or "counseled", way under pain of being denounced as "traitors to thoir church." Tho Tribune in its annual edition presented somo plain, straightforward truths with regard to tho situation in Utah, as it is accustomed to do. It did not attack the Mormon church, hut only tho results of the actions of its greedy, lawless, tyrannical grafting priesthood. If tho church organ would allow tho scales to fall from its eyes so that it could sec clearly, it would have no objection ob-jection to tho straightforward, plain facts presented b3' The Tribune |
