Show Dope From the Police Court After spending the time since Saturday night In jail, where they had gone on account of thc fact that they drank loo much, fifteen men lined up In Judge Bowman's court Monday afternoon and listened to a pointed lecture based upon their folly. Then the fifteen walked out of tho room filled with resolutions to pass by the saloon for at least six months. If they should appear In the court In that period they will remain In jail some considerable time, according to his honor- Three men, charged with vagrancy, were sentenced to six months in the elly jail because they had been given an opportunity to leave thc rlty and had put in the time dodging thc police Instead In-stead of leaving. Florence Barrett came Into court and changed her plea of not guilty to that of guilty and was sentenced to "i0 days in the city Jail. She was charged with stealing a number of silk dresses from Miss Jane Doe. C. J. Miller. a youth IS years old. found a benefactor In his landlady, for iiftor he had entered the courtroom and pleaded guilty of stealing $S worth of brass from the Denver & Ilio Grande railroad yards, he was lined 10. His landlady, who said she believed that the youth had been led astray by bad companions, com-panions, paid the fine. William Stohcr. a chauffeur in the cm-ploy cm-ploy of Tony Jacobson, pleaded guilty to the charge of violating thc speed ordinance ordi-nance and was lined $5. Saturday night, last Stober lost control of tho machine he was driving, when Hearing State and K-ast Third South streets, and knocked Sergeant Ucekstead and Patrolman Gillespie Gill-espie to the ground- He told the court that the machine skidded on account of tho wet streels and that he was not to blame for losing control of it. The uniforms of the officers were covered with the slush and filth of the street, due to their being thrown about fifteen feet. W. F.. Wilson. Albert IJrjuor. W. F Albright and Robert Pugh pleaded guilty to disturbing tho pence Now Year's night. They were lined 5r each, when It was learned that they had settled for the property they had destroyed In the Tuxedo roqmlng house. At the forenoon session of the court, the case of the state against Sam 1. Cod-man, Cod-man, a former license inspector, charged with assault with a deadly weapon upon his wife, was called for hearing. Assistant As-sistant County Attorney Bowman moved that the case be dismissed, explaining that Godman Is In Denver and also intimating in-timating that he had made up his mind to remain away from Salt Lake City. Judge Bowman, after refusing to grant the dismissal, said, "I think that If thc man Is guilty as charged In this complaint com-plaint the case should not bo dismissed. Ho should be punished and therefore tho case will be continued until March 1, nnd In tho event that the man comes back to this city the matter will be pending against him." Harry C.
