Show SAFE ROBBERS CAUGHT AND MONEY RECOVERED CHEYENNE, Wyo.. Sept. 15, Privates John Lumpkin and L. Bates, negro deserters de-serters from troop M. Ninth cavalry, were arrested hero today, charged with having robbed the army safe at Pole Mountain maneuver camp August 9 of ?6500. AH but a few dollars was recovered. re-covered. The two men were seen last night by E. M. Sandy, a Dalo Creek storekeeper, go in an automobile to a placo where the safe was hidden In the ground, and he followed them to the city and then notified officers. When Lumpkin was arrested, S2500 was found in his satchel. Chief of Police Smalley later found J3000 In a sack In the rear of Bates' room, James Molle. a ranch hand, says the two negroes forced him to drlvo them to a railroad station with the money, paying him $250 to keep silent. United States army officers are still investigating, in-vestigating, believing that othern may be implicated. Two more men are held as suspects. |
