Show PROVO LIQUOR SLEUTHS BUSY UNDER CITY PAY Special to Tho Tribune. PROVO, April 2. The trial of the case of Provo City against Thomas Halladay for a violation of the prohibition ordl- j nance. In Justice Noon's court this morning, morn-ing, with a jury, was begun. A. J. Weber Web-er of Salt Lake and John B. Mllnor of Provo aro tho defendant's attorneys and City Attornoy Anderson Is prosecuting. There was considerable difficulty In securing se-curing a jury. Attornoy Weber, for the defense, asked each Juror how he stood on tho prohibition question, whether he belonged to any prohibition league or any organization whoso object it wits to fight tho liquor traffic. The evidence was that F. R. Muth and Roger Coldurst went Into defendant's placo of business on March 18 and asked for some whisky, which was served. At the same time tho men ordered cigars, and while the defendant, Halladay, was getting Iho cigars. Muth abstracted somo of tho whisky from one of the glasses by means of a rubber bulb. This liquor was afterward put Into a vial by Mr. Muth. and the vial and contents were Introduced Ln evidence. Muth testified that ho was employed by the city marshal of Provo at ?1 a day and all expenses, both for himself and for each of his assistants. Halladay was found guilty and will bo sentenced April 11. His attorneys will movo for a new trial. |
