Show Early Closing Going Into Effect Practically all the stores on Main street closed their doors promptly at 0 o'clock Saturday night for the first time in the history of Salt Lake. This action was tho result of much effort on the part of the thousands of clerks of this city and of the Utah State Federation of Women's clubs. The stores that closed according 10 agreement agree-ment were Walker Brothers, Keith-O'Brien, Keith-O'Brien, Anerbach & Brother. Hamilton. Hamil-ton. Charlton Shop, Banks' Millinery, Cutler Brothers. I?. K. Thomas. Wonder Millinory. liecknieyer Millinery, Mrs. Warren 'Millinery, ' Mrs. Morris Millinery, Mil-linery, Colin Brothers, Mehesy Mil-liuerv, Mil-liuerv, Gray Clothing store, Mrs. "Weber Millinery, "Mrs. Stevenson Millinery, The Z. C M. T. and the Sample Shop did not dose, although it is said that tho Sample had agreed to close. None of the stores on State street closed, an installment house especially refusing to sign the !groonicut. Manager Beifus, of Walker Brothers, was ihc first lo sign. Besides tho clerks working for Saturday Satur-day night closing there' has been a committee com-mittee of eight well-known and influential in-fluential women appointed by Mrs. C. H. MtMahon as president of the State r-'ederation of Women's clubs, and aided by I ho liev. P. A. Simpkin of Phillips Congregational church, working work-ing hard for several weeks to get the merchants all to agree to close on the last night of the week so that tho clerks, the women clerks especially, would not have to work from fourteen to sixteen hours a day. Mrs. L. Andrews, An-drews, chairman for the women dorks, and Miss King, of Walker Brothers, have been equally active in the early closing movement. The retail clerks have carried their early closing crusade lo the retail electrical elec-trical supply houses and contracting firms of the city, and with excellent results, re-sults, as every one of these houses has signed up for G o'clock closing on Saturdays Sat-urdays as well as other week daj-s.
