Show DEMOCRATIC ORGAN'S BOLT. Tho Herald of this city doesn't like to be classod as a boiler of its party acts. Which inevitably courts the reply, re-ply, then it shouldn't bolt. Tho Herald Her-ald claims to bo a Democratic paper. The Democratic party held a Stato convention a week ago today, at Twin Falls. Tho sentiment represented in tho leadership of Senator Dubois dominated dom-inated that convention. Even tho Herald Her-ald admits that. Tt admits lhat, without with-out regard to contesting delegations, actual or fictitious, Mr. Dubois was in control. And 3-ct, tho Herald sided with the minoril3', doplored tho major-it3 major-it3 action, and undertook to argue down tho platform. Even now, it does not treat the action of tho convention as tho action of the part3-, but gives oqiuil standing to tho minorit3' bolters as lo tho majorit3' regulars; it insists that thcro were "two conventions, two sets of delegates chosen, and a split in tho part3' as wido as tho Grand Cunj'on of tho Colorado." No hint thcro of ono "split" being more to bo supported than tho other, but both tho minority and tho majority, tho bolters aud tho regulnrs, aro treated precisob' alike, neithor to have precedence over tho othor. And 3'et the Herald at times wants to be considered a Democratic newspaper, oven sometimes as a Demo cratic organ I Tho Herald thinks that "tho Democrats Demo-crats of Idaho aro nmpl3' nblo to take care of their own affnirs," which perhaps per-haps is the reason WI13- it obtruded itself it-self into their affairs, and sought to give tho minority bolters an equal standing with tho majorit' regulars. But the real grievance of the Herald on this point is that tho Democrats of Idaho did in fact tnko charge of their own affairs, and declined lo allow thoso affairs to bo dictated from church headquarters head-quarters in Salt Lake, whence tho affairs af-fairs of the Utah Democrac3 are dictated dic-tated and sacrificed so much to tho apparent satisfaction of tho Herald. Fiuall3', tho Herald insists that there was a contesting delegation from Bingham Bing-ham county, in spito of tho fact that no contest was filed from Bingham count3', and no contesting delegation was on the ground. And it insists that it will "bolt no regular nominees" whilo in fact bolting the action of tho Stato convention. It adds that it will "print the news exactly as it happens, and when it happens," wherein "it expects ex-pects to differ materially and constantly" constant-ly" from The Tribuno. There will be no contention between us on the fact of differing; but it is The Tribune which in truth occupies tho euviablo position falser claimed for itself by tho Herald; for tho nerald has wholly misrepresented tho fact in respect to this contest, and it insists upon tho minority bolters being entitled to as much credit and standing as tho regulars, regu-lars, while all tho time admitting thai tho regulars woro iu the majorit3r and in control, in spilo of tho opposition, and leaving the conlesls altogether out of the question. |
