Show CONFEDERATE VETERANS HOLD EIGHTH REUNION j Seven Thousand AVIjo Wore the Gray Present at Ceremonies Held in Birmingham. BIRMINGHAM, Ala.. June 9. Amid Kroat enthusiasm and before 7000 people, peo-ple, in the Birmingham hippodrome auditorium, the oighlh annual reunion of Confederate Veterans was called to order today by Ma.j.-Gen. George P. Harrison, commanding tho Alabama division di-vision of the Confederate Veterans. The invocation was deliverod by Rev. Dr. J. William Jones, chaplain general. The children's chorus followed. 200 children, accompauied by the Reunion band, rendering Southern airs. Maj.-Gon. Maj.-Gon. Harrison, on the stage, was surrounded sur-rounded by Gen. "W. L. Cabell of Texas, Gen. Clement Evans of Georgia, Gen. Tyler and other prominent; officers, and by representatives of tho local Sons of veterans, Daughters of the Confederacy and local citizens' committees. Today's programme included an address ad-dress of welcome on behalf of the Confederate Con-federate Veterans of Alabama by Brig.-Gen. Brig.-Gen. AVilliam Bush; on behalf of tho Sons of Veterans, by Gen. Itiifus N. Rhodes; on behalf or Alabama Daughters Daugh-ters of the Confederacy, by Mrs. Charles G. Brown, and reading of the address of Gen. Stephen D. Leo, deceased. |
