H Amid the cheers pf more than five hundred rooters, including a 'great many "co-eds" of both- institutions, the second team of the University of Utah administered defeat to tho Ogden high school squad Saturday . after-noon after-noon in the Junction city, to tho tune of 21 to 0. Open plays, forward passes nnd kicking in. plenty characterized the game. Neither team was able to do much effective offensive' work by straight playing. The 'varsity team, howover, mado its' yards four times, while the Ogden bunch' was only able to do the stunt twico. Tho University team took every ad-vantage ad-vantage that tho .new rules would al-low al-low in advancing the ball. Ogden, on JH the other hand, failed to use a single forward pnss, and orily kicked, when unable to makc the ten yards, and even thon, kicked without attempting tto' re-cover re-cover the ball. Eud runs wore used by both teams, and, but with. two ex- IH ceptions, the 'varsity was the -only jH side ablo to make any distance by .this play. Both teams were strong on tho defense. Ball Kicked Often. The ball was kicked bnck and forth, with tho -'varsity usually gnhiing. by .H tho exchange. The open field work made tho game moro spectacular' and 'H interesting. Perguson of the 'varsity IH did the best work of the day in ad- tl vaucing the ball in the open held. Ho 'H carried the ball farthor than any other man. Mouahan and Needham, tho two 'H ends of tho 'varsity team, were good jH on offense work. Mouahan recovered jH the ball on two-thirds of the kicks made IH by the 'varsity. Ashley did excellent VM defensive work, but on. tho offense ho ll was often unablo to carry tho ball for gains. Capt. Scranton, at quarter, hau-died hau-died his team well, realizing from the start that the only way to gain ground was by using the forward pas3 and kicking. For the Ogden team, Tavey and jH Lewis did the best work in advancing tho ball. Scudder, at right guard, played well on the defense, breaking IH through tho line and getting his man almost as soon as the play was in mo-tion. mo-tion. The 'varsity lost twenty-five yards through penalties. Five yards wero lost on an illegal formation and twenty were lost through tripping.
