Show RARE TREASURES SHOWN Exhibit of Wonderful Manuscripts Owned by J. P. Morgan Made. NEW YORK, Oct. 13. A largo number num-ber of people viewed the J. Pierpont Morgan collection of illuminated manuscripts man-uscripts which was exhibited at Columbia Colum-bia university yesterday for the first time. The manuscripts represented some of the rarest specimens of aTt in the middle mid-dle ages. There nro sixty-three volumes vol-umes in all, representing nearly every country in Europe, and all of tnem aTO from 200 to 1200 years old. The oldest are samples of tho Christian Chris-tian art of the eighth ceu'ury. One of them, a Life of Christ, contains thirty thir-ty full-page miniatures in brilliant coloring, in which gold predominates. The specimens of English painting contain con-tain a Bestiary of the j-car 1150.' with 100 miniatures' of bird3 and beasts. |
