Show PROMINENT OGDEN MAN IS TERRIBLY INJURED W. M. Wolff of tho Southern Pacific Loses Both Feet. Spcclnl to The Tribune OGDEN, Oct. 13. A most distressing distress-ing accident occurred in tho Ogden Union depot yards tonight, when W. M. WoltT, a young man about 28 years of age, senior clerk in the ouico of Master jMochanio Malone, of the Southern South-ern Pacific, under Chief Clerk Geo. E. Wilson, was struck by Union Pacific Pa-cific switch engine 1104. and was horribly hor-ribly mutilatea under the wheels of tho engine. Ho was removed to tho Ogden General hospital in tho ambulance ambu-lance and was attended by Dr. Joyce, who amputated both lower limbs above tho ankle. Thrco nngers of Wolff's right hand wcro also crushed under tho wheels and had to be amputated. Wolff, who has been married about seven months and was but recently installed in-stalled as spuior clork iu Mr. Malone 's office, has his voung wifo in Evaustou. At tho timo tlio accident occurred he was crossing tho tracks to reach No. '1, tho enstbound pnssengor on tho Union Pacific, with the intention of spending Sunday in tho society of his wife. He had not reached tho train when the accident occurred, and ho was picked up mutilated and taken to tho hospital. Mr. Wolff stood ttic oporation very well, and there is every hope of his ultimate recovery. After the effects of tho anaesthetic had passed away, ho remarked to Dr. Joyce: "This is very tough, doctor, but I hopo I will live.-'' Dr. Joyce is confident that ho will ro-cover, ro-cover, but the injury is a very serious one. Wolff, during the short period he has been in Mr. Malone 's office, has bc-como bc-como a favorite, owing to his efficiency and his pleasant personality. The first people who arrived at the hospital to see what, might bo done was T. J. Malone, Ma-lone, tho master mechanic, and Geo. E. Wilson, the chief clerk, and both remained re-mained until after the operation had been completed. Mr. Wolff's young wifo at Evanstou has boon apprised of her husband 's injury, aud will arrive in Ogdenon No. 3 of tho Union Pacific at 3:-15 Sunday morning. |
