Tribune Special .Sporting Semes. NEW YORK. Sept. 14. The race week of the Motor Boat club of America, iu which is included the national motor boat carnival, will be held on tho Hud-sou Hud-sou river, commencing tho week of September 23. It is an event, that brings together the greatest fleet of high-speed boats thai, have ever participated par-ticipated in one event. Boats of the high-speed typo aud pleasure boats as .well compete, and the great interest displayed by owners of the latter typo of boats bespeaks for tho occasion a greater number of entries than the club has ever received. On previous occasions occa-sions -owners of pleasure boats have been holding aloot, owing to tho fact that in many events they have been compelled to enter against racers. Tho rules this year, however, separate tho racing from the pleasure boats, and when a boat, by reason of the difference in rating for horsepower between racer and cruiser, may rate in either division she is classed as a racer. Intorcst in tho race week far surpasses sur-passes that of any other year, and there is no event held where there is such a diversified list of events in fact, every kind of racing ouo might wish to indulge in-dulge in. Events aro open to members of all regularly organized yacht or mo-tor mo-tor boat clubs of the United Status, t Europe or Canada, and the races are governed by tho rules of the Motor Boat club of America. An enlranco fee of $5 covers all entries for events in which the boat is to participate, and which is returned to the owner if the boat lakes part in tho events in which she is entered. The propelling power may be any form of combustion engine, using gasolene, kerosene or naphtha. Week's Programme. The programme of events- for the week is as follows: Monday. September Septem-ber 2.1, rcliabilitj" trials; Tucsdav morning, morn-ing, Scptembor 2-1, mile speed trials against existing world's record; Tues-i Tues-i day afternoon, September 21. free-for-I all race, also races for motor diugevs (this is gencrallv looked upon as ladies ' day); Wednesday. September 25. Thursday, Thurs-day, September 26. and Fridav, September Septem-ber 27, series races, all classes, iu which the included tho perpetual challenge trophies for the championships, as follows: fol-lows: International, national, interstate, inter-state, motor yacht and cabin cruisers; Saturday, September 2S. long distance race, New York to Albany and return; Saturday afternoon. September 2S, long distance race, from New York to Pough-kecpsic Pough-kecpsic and return. The former is 'intended 'in-tended for the larger types of highspeed high-speed boats, aud tho Poughkcepsie race more for tho cruising type of boats. Trials for Six Hours. The reliability trials are held in order to impress upon manufacturers the importance im-portance of paying attention to those features brought out in the trials and thus promote improvemonts in the construction, con-struction, design and cflieieiicy of boats propelled by internal combustion engines. en-gines. Points are awarded for reliability relia-bility in operation, regularity iu covering cov-ering the course or uniformity of speed throughout the test, fuel economy lubricating lubri-cating economy, . speed, reversibility, ease of control, starting and final condition con-dition of boat after trial. These trials will extend over a period of six hours, from 11 a. m. to o p. m. All boats will race as one class, a. first prize being awarded the boat obtaining tho highest number of marks, a second prize whero four or more boats complete the trials, and a third prize if seven or more boats comply with that condition. Certificates of performance, showing speed, distance run, number of stops, consumption and other points, will also bo given to all boats that complete tho trial. In the event of a tie in tho total number of marks, the boat with the highest marks for reliability shall take precedence; in the event of their still being a tie, speed shall be taken, aud so on, in the order of the respective values of the poiuls. |
