Dwyer. a negro with an Irish name, was arrested by Patrolmen Clough and Gulbranscn on Commercial street Saturday mornlnq; on a chargo of assnult with a deadly weapon. The prosccutiiiK witness Is a negro woman, Blrdlo Klnsle. whom Dwyer is alleged to have struck over the head with a billiard cue In a Commercial street Baloon row. The woman's wom-an's injuries were attended at the Emergency Emer-gency hospital in the city Jail by Dr S. G. Paul. The woman Is alleged lo have rushed into a pool room, oper-ucd by negrj-s. on ' Commercial street while Dwyor and oth- ers were playing pool. She was cmssed with drink and nourished a kuif dangerously dan-gerously near Dwyer. After running tho keeper from the place she 'uried her attention to Dwyer. It is alleged, and J slashed his coat m:o pieces before ho could get his hands out of his pockets. Two or three fingers of the right hand also wore nearly cut off. After slashing the cloth on the pool tablo the crazed woman again attacked Dwyer. who struck her with the cue In self-defense Tho trouble occurred in tho Headquarters Headquar-ters saloon and poolroom at 22 Commercial Commer-cial street, Henry Ernst, proprietor. Dwvcr'3 bond was fixed at 5300 and he I was committed to the county Jail in default de-fault of bond. The woman was released. |
