Show Shark Kills Bather. W. H. Hutoheson, civil engineer; was killed by a shark while bathing with his family at Mocraki. North Otago, last month, writes a Dunediu correspondent- Tie was stauding up in tho sea for his son, a boy of twelve, to dive off his shoulder. Tho boy suddenly felt his father's body giye way. On recovering ho saw a coniuotion in the water and observed that his father was struggling with somo object, which he could not distinguish. Ho swam to his assistance, assist-ance, and some progress was mado toward to-ward the bench, when Mr. Hulchcson commenced to collapse. Mrs. Ilutchcson had bv this time noticed no-ticed something was wrong and seeing the water crimson with blood, rushed in and assisted her husband to rcacli tho shore, but he expired almost at once, from loss of blood and shock. A subsequent examination showed hu must have bean attacked by a shark, the calf of the right leg ' from the kneo downward being completely torn away, leaving tho romaining flesh lorn and lacerated and tho bono completely u.-posed. |
