Show FISH LIKED DOG MEAT German Carp Swallows Puppy and Frightens a GirL Miss Bessie Brink, a city boarder on the New York sido of the Delaware river, at Pond Eddy, Pa., went fishing on Saturday afternoon. Tying her line to the bow of the boat she settled down to read a magnzine. Soon she was aroused by a movement of the boat, and saw that she wns being propelled through the water by some unseen powor. Then she became frightened, and cried for help. Several fishermen, coming com-ing up quickly, saw her boat whirling about the eddy as if it. were a motor boat. "She's caught a sturgeon!" 3'olled one of the fishermen, as he bent to his oars. Then the fishermen started after Miss Brink's boat. Tho chase lasted several minutes before the rescuers could get alongside. Charles Sawyer and William Brown managed to board Miss Brink's boat, which was then towod to the Bhore. Tn the shoal water wa-ter her fishing line was hauled in and a big fiEh was brought to the surface. The men belabored the monster with oars and stones to stuu it. Tt was a German carp, weighing twenlj'-eight pounds four ounces, the biggest specimen speci-men ever taken from these waters. A story is related that some years ago a carp swallowed a pug puppy, tho pet of a city boarder, which fell out of the boat. Miss Brink's catch is believed be-lieved to be the fish thatswallowcd the dog, as a buckle similar to those attached at-tached to dog collars vwaa found in its stomach. |
