Show INDICTMENTS RETURNED AGAINST FISH TRUST CHICAGO. Aug. 3. Indictments were returned today in the United States District court against A. Booth I & Company, generallv known aa .tho. MfiBu'ust' tho" iflWWfi cago & St. Louis railroad and the- Lehigh Le-high Valley Railroad company, charging charg-ing them with violation of tho first provision of the Elktns law prohibiting rebating. The indictment against tho Booth company contains 75 counts; that against the 2srow York, Chicago & St. Louis railroad 51 counts, ana against tho Lehigh Valley road 54 counts. If found guilt', the corporations aro liablo to a lino of from $1000 to $20,-000 $20,-000 for each offense. 11 is claimed by the Government officials offi-cials that A. Booth it Company organized organ-ized the Overland Kefrigorator'Express company, -which operated under a lease from, Booth & Company, certain refrigerator re-frigerator curs and collected from the railroads mileage for the use of the cars and. commissions upon tho amount of freight cpllccted for property transported trans-ported in them. No attack is made by the Government upon this fcaturo o'f the business of the Overland Refrigerator Refrigera-tor company, but it is claimed that the Overland Lxpress company "pretended to solicit" other business than that of A. Booth & Company, and tho companies compa-nies paid to tho Overland company commissions com-missions on shipments made by "Boot h & Company. ' ' It is further claimed that, tho express comapnv was actually operated by A. Booth & Company, and that the mo'neys received by it from tho railroad companies com-panies wero turned over to Booth & Company, in the guise of rentals of cars loused by A. Booth & Company, to tho express company. |
