Show INSOLENT, LYING WHISPERINGS. Once upon a time the priestly whisper nmong adherents of the Mormon church was that the martyred President James A. Garfield was a Mormon. This was long before his lamentable . end came, however, nnd was tho reward which the ccclosinsts woro disposed to bestow upon his devoted head for some favors which President Garfield had shown toward a distressed people. At the time, it was stated that whilo it was true that Mr. Garfield was in fact a member of tho church, it had been deemed wise, for public reasons, that ho should not submit to baptism. However, How-ever, it was secretly noised about, among the followers of the poI'ga-mous poI'ga-mous cult that "a work had boon done iu tho temple" for the President of United States, and that he was consequently con-sequently "one of us" and assured of salvation hereafter. Rut there came a change. President Garfield afterwards refused to. accode to certain requests of the Mormon authorities, au-thorities, which he deemed to bo unreasonable,- and a fulfillment of which he regarded as unwarranted in tho absence of certain performances on the part of the church.- Then, tho whispering tunc? of priestcraft changed to a minor key. The President had apostatized; he wns no longer within the fellowship of the priesthood. And, most damnable of all, 'it was freely stated that Garfield 's assassination was a judgment of tho Almighty in punishment punish-ment of that- apostasy.o It is a well-known fact, and in some instances the announcements have been made publicly, that the priests of bigoted Boff-cstecm have taken tipon themselves the work of "officiating for the dead" in cases of numerous distinguished individuals who have boon factors in the world 's progress. Without consultation with tho gentleman gentle-man most concerned in the operation, tho devotees of priestly grips, signs, passwords and oaths have "performed a work in tho temple" for the illustrious illus-trious and beloved fathor of his country, coun-try, Georgo Washington. Willy-nilly, he has been annexed to some sanctimonious sancti-monious possessor, of many wives and "families." The hierarchy were possessed pos-sessed of the supreme assurance that, without, their holy official intervention, interven-tion, the first President of the United States (good and true as ho is known to have been) was doomed to the damnation of otornitios. Lost to him throughout the aeons to come would be the wife of his bosom, in tho absence ab-sence of the saving and cementing ceremonies cere-monies to which they submitted (vicariously, (vi-cariously, of course,) in the temple of the Lord's house in Zion. Queen Victoria, Vic-toria, in return for the facilities which her benevolent government offorcd for "tho spread of tho gospel" in Great Britain, has also been made the recipient re-cipient of the polygamous saving grace. Napoleon, too. for tho reason that he was a great man, has likewise been brought within tho fold. And many othors of more or less prominence. But the great and glorious work of redemption, by proxj-, could not be completo if the absent treatment had stopped with tho male sox as recipients recip-ients perforce. The dominant desires of the many-wived wiseheads made further fur-ther provision for realization. Most of us havo read of the boauties of the ancient, mediaeval and modern world of Cleopatra, of Juno, of. Hebe, of Helen of Troy, of Venus, and perhaps of Sappho. Companionship has been provided for theso 'iu tho eternities. In fact, if there has been "anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report." the brothron have made it a point to "seek after these things." And so it goes. But listen to the whisper that is going the secret rounds just how: "President Roosevelt is a Latter-day Saint.'-' say the priests. "A. work has been done for him in the house of the Lord. Tho brethren have had tho scaling scal-ing work done for him, and he shall have, throughout all eternity, both of his families the living and the dead. Upon him has been conferred all tho gifts and blessings of the celestial kingdom which the -priesthood can confer con-fer upon this earth. And doubtless he has been notified of the good work." With the Mormon church rests the blasphemy with which this whole scheming schem-ing system is permeated not. in the recording re-cording of tho whisper. Lost to all sense of decency, the high priests are willing -to prey upon the superstitions of their people in order to porpotuato the treasonable plans which they carry iu their innermost hearts. Upon them be the condemnation for dragging the names of the. foremost meu and women in tho world into the slimy morass of their moral decay. They know no limit in the exploitation of their unholy un-holy ambitions, and so long as they arc in n position to defy law and sentiment, sen-timent, in their determined criminality, juet so long may tho high and mighty, as well as the lowly, expect to be the objects of thoir brazen attacks or their undosircd benedictions. But the facts concerning these things ought to constitute sufficient notice to nil the docent citizenship of this country coun-try that a comploto euro of the menacing menac-ing evil lies in the dethronement of its proponents from political power. The Slate of Utah is tho first to feel tho priestly encroachment, and is naturally subject to the greatest injury. It is therofore the duty of citizens hero to array themselves solidly against tho cult of concubinage, setting forth no-tieo no-tieo to the remainder of tho country that, a worthy beginning hns bepn made at homo, and encouraging those abroad to lend assistance to the noblo cause which makes for patriotism to country, coun-try, and which is determined to drive treason out of iho land. |
