Show CITIZENS HIP OF MOST VALUE. From authentic information The Tribune Trib-une learns that the Bpeclal reports sent out from Boise, Idaho, concerning remarks re-marks alleged tn have been made at Nampa by Senator Fred T. Dubois, relative re-lative to Reed Smoot s selection as Fourth-of-July orator, were Incorrect. Senator Dubois In his speech made no allusion whatever to the subject After Af-ter Gov Goodlnz had lauded the hierarchical hie-rarchical Investments in Idaho, had welcomed the money of the ecclesiastical ecclesiasti-cal brigands of Utah Into his State, Senator Sen-ator Dubois did utter the sentiment that more Important than mere money WHS th citizenship of Idaho. To make of this the chief consideration, In extending extend-ing an Invitation to tho rest of the world, seemed to him to be the best discharge dis-charge of publlo dut, so far as It con-corned con-corned the material upbuilding of the State. Tho Tribune coincides with the view of Senator Dubois; and It utters a friendly warning to the people of the Gem State against selling themselves Into bondage to the Mormon hlerarch, no matter what may be the present temptation Idaho Is destined to be one of the, greatest commonwealths of tho T'nlon, unless she shall lay bad stones In her foundation. Men and money are. flowing Into her borders as lapldly as she can assimilate them it should be her socking to lnvlt no man whose moth mo-th e is not In consonance with tho higb-est higb-est Ideals of American citizenship, and to court no money the Investment of which will establish un-American power w thin her domain. The State Is founded on the character of Its men. If they give their supreme loyalty on earth to the Nation of which tho State Is a part, if they carefully observe the safe rule of separation of Chun h and State, If they permit no Improper Im-proper intrusion Into politics, if they hull the legislation of the State sacred from assault. If they keep the courts unstained and unsuspected, they will by the conditions thus maintained advertise ad-vertise Idaho to all the world as an abiding place for good men and good women and a safe place for the Investment Invest-ment of honest capital. On the other hand, if they sacrifice the great future to present gain, If they establish or permit per-mit the establishment there of conditions condi-tions like unto those In Utah, whatever may be the material profit, they will find It too costly, for In the end they will have to fight to regain what they do not need to lose It Is the result of bitter experience In Utah which Justifies the statement that no patriot should countenance Investment Invest-ment In his State by a church whoso hierarchs rob their own people to enrich en-rich themselves. If they would take unjustly from those to whom they are obligated by pledges of fraternity, It can not be doubted that they would be restrained by no scruple from taking from others, and if Idaho encourages the intrusion of the monopolistic hlerarch hle-rarch into her field of commerce she will find that be ha e?tabllshed a political poli-tical ami social hold upon her which can not be shaken loose without a tremendous tre-mendous struggle. Truly, Senator DudoIb has uttered a needed and a timely warning. Citizenship Citizen-ship Is worth more than sugar factories to the new State. It is Ignoble in any community which knows the facts to encourage the hierarchs of Utah In their acts of brigandage against the poor masses of the church, and It !s a demonstration dem-onstration of loss of self respert for any State to Invite the investment wlth-Ing wlth-Ing Its borders of money robbed from the tolling poor. |
