Show S'T. PETERSBURG, June 16. Gen. Bobrlkoff, Governor-General of Finland, wna shot and mortally wounded at 11 o'clock this morning morn-ing at the entrance to the FinnlKh Scn-ato Scn-ato at Is'elumgfors. The assassin, a man named Schau-mann, Schau-mann, a son of Senator Schaumann, immediately im-mediately committed suicide. Bobrlkoff wan shot ln the stomach and neck. He was brought to St. Petersburg in a dying condition. The attack is ascribed to Finnish patriotism. Schaumann is believed to be a member of what Is known as the Finnish Patriotic Pa-triotic party. Gon. Count Bobrlkoff, who was appointed ap-pointed Governor-General of Finland in 3 99, made himself very unpopular by hla severe measures against the press of Finland and theh stern .manner in which he followed out the policy of Russia towards to-wards the Finns. This led to serious rioting at Helelngfors ln 1902, which was suppressed by Cossacks. |
