Show CONVICT WADDELL GETS TWELVE YEARS The convict, Henry Waddell, who was convicted of assault with intent to commit com-mit murder and pleaded guilty to grand larceny and to escaping from the Slato prison, was sentenced to twolvo years In the penitentiary at hard labor by Judgo Morse In the District court yesterday yes-terday morning. Tho prisoner, who shot Guard Naylor at the time of tho break, was given ten years on tho assault chargo and ono year on each of the others. After the sentence of the court had been pronounced Waddoll moved for a new trial on the ground of newly discovered dis-covered evidence. He stated that the guilty party had made a confession about four months ago, admitting the crime and saying Waddell had nothing to do with it. Waddell's attorney, Frank McGraw, did not help his prisoner. He stated that ho had investigated the facts In connection with tho alleged confession and that he did not consider them sufficient for moving for a new trial. Judge Morse Informed the prisoner pris-oner that he could not consider a motion mo-tion not sanctioned by his attorney. Waddoll Is now 6crvlng a term of ten years for burglary and assault, which, with the sentence Imposed yesterday, makes a total of twenty-two years. |
