Show OPENED BOTTOM OF LAKE Disappearance of Water Attributed to Recent Earthquakes in Piute The curious disappearance of a mountain moun-tain lake In Piute county is attributed to the recent earthquakes and probably prob-ably Is connected with the Increase of water in the streams on both sides of the Beaver range According to information infor-mation gathered by Director L H Murdoch who returned yesterday from Richfield there existed until a few weeks ago a lake small in area but quite deep in the mountains which divide di-vide Beaver and Piute counties After the t series of earthquake shocks It was discovered that the lake was dry although al-though copious rain and snow had fall en At the same time It was observed that the small streams arising in the divide had almost doubled their amount of water and It Is believed that the seismic disturbances opened the bottom of the lake and drained the I water Into the streams Whatever tho cause the farmers were not slow to take advantage of the additional water supply and many claims were filed inconsequence in-consequence Mr Murdoch said that In the canyons the noise of the dally earthquake shocks was like that made by striking a gong Mr Murdoch established a volunteer observation station at Richfield with J II Lauretzen as observer |
