Show VIKING LEAGUE AGAIN I MET WITH BOARD OF CONTROL 1 OF JOINT BUILDING Uhrstrom Matter Gone Over Again Uhrstrom Asserts He Is Not a S Yak Rabbit There was a court without a case at the Joint building last night but the opposing elements werestron I in ng were strongly evidence ev-idence Councilmen Whlttemore and Hewlett of the Board of Control sat asa I as-a court en bane as it wereto hear a I vindication of the Viking leaSe by a number of its members for Its attitude r against Night Watchman Axel Uhr strom of the building who was recommended recom-mended for the position by the league which afterward expellee TJhrstrom from its ranks The war of charges and countercharges that was fought flume months ago was reviewed last night by a long running fire of words between the contending parties The membcrp of the league present last I nigh were A F Lawson J R Matson Parley P Jensen AR Nelson Hans Chrlstopherson and W A Cloves Mr Uhrstrom was also present part of the time but his duties frequently called him to different parts of the building Then the united testimony of six against one made the proposition one sided and embarrassing especially for the one As the issue before the board was an explanation and a justification othe leagues previous action the witnesses were given a wide latitude and the field was thoroughly covered Mr Lawson was the principal spokesman spokes-man Testimony b affidavit and parole pa-role was submitted that Uhrstrom d been intoxicated had neglected his duties du-ties and been found asleep on numerous numer-ous occasions since he was appointed The testimony was also to the effect that Uhrstrom had been belligerent at several times Then to close their disapproval dis-approval Uhrstrom the six in one accord ac-cord bore testimony to the effect that Uhrstrom was worthless and unreliable that none of the six would take his word and that his reputation for truth and veracity was bad Uhrstroni denied the charges severally ly I and as a whole and explained why he had not come to the door of the joint building at a late hour on a certain occasion oc-casion when Lawson rattled the door by saying that he a not a yak rabbit rab-bit awl did not have to run every time Lawson rattled the door f Mr Lawson afterward stated that the league was not after Uhrstroms job but desired to explain why It had withdrawn with-drawn its support of him He then explained ex-plained the object of the league breading b-reading its constitution and bylaws and said that It had been instrumental in getting 300 men naturalized last gcttng 30 aturHzcd year in Salt Lake county which with the wives of part of those naturalized meant about 500 Republican votes He also poke of the work of the league for tho party throughout the State |
