Show I OGDEN DEPARTMENT SQUABBLE OVER COURT BLANKS Action of the Council Last Night Washington Avenue Paving Tim City Council last night settled tho courtblanks question About two weeks ago bids were called for for tho supervision i super-vision and preparation of tho blanks necessary for tho new Municipal court I EId wero to closo at a spccilled time tho lowest bidder to receive the contract At J tho appointed time three bids wore found II I ono ° tT1C0 one ° r l11fJ and another for 115 Theso were reported to the Council a week ago but at that time Mr Howell appeared and addressed tho Council and stated that as he was the Judseclcct of the court he thought ho ought to have something say regarding the forma that tho lowest bidder Mr Farr having been his opponent at the recqnt election ho was somewhat delicate about having him do the work and offered to do It free of charge If the Council would pay for tho typewriting Tho matter was referred to him to investigate tho cost and he last evening reported that It would not exceed 525 and If tim Council authorized him to KO ahead he would guarantee that I It would not exceed that sum Councilman Abbott thereupon macho a motion which was seconded that It ho referred to Howell when Farr who was present naked tho privilege of the floor and made a short talk in which ho scored tho Judgeelect for Interfering In tho matter mat-ter and charged that It was a matter of personal spite that If ho Farr had not bid Howell would have consented to hao let It go to the lowest bidder but that now that ho was In the scrap he proposed to stay In and went Howell ono better by offering to do tho work for nothing Then arose discussion among the Coun cllmcn that wquld hardly havo dono credit toO kindergarten finally resulting In a motion that the Council accept Farrs charily offer This motion wait seconded but never put Brown offering an amendment amend-ment that Inasmuch as Farr was tho l lOWest lOW-est bidder originally ho was entitled to I the work and his amendment carried l giving I giv-ing Farr the contract for J115 Councilmen I Council-men Brown Cross Emmett Flyparp Jones and Parry voted for tho Brown I I amendment and Abbott Carr Poweru I and Thomas against It Tho council adopted hc plan and specifications spe-cifications for the paving of Washington avenue and or 1eredlhe notice to contractors con-tractors published Bids aro to bo in at noon December 31st 1 rho bill of IL JI Henderson for 52231 for legal services was ordered paid and the Council adjourned at 1045 |
