yesterday afternoon to hear the famous fa-mous Royal Italian band If anyone thought that the mud and rain would detain tho children ho was doomed to disappointment for they came from nil quarters of the city and apparently did not mind the drizzle any moro than a summer zephyr rcii thousand children Only thom who were there and saw them can appreciate what such a gathering is They Illlctl the filling lie side rows of benches If not entirely critical and appreciative of tho splendid programme rendered the children were at least demonstrative and tIme band responded three times to encores en-cores Greatly enjoyed were tho num bers by the childrens choir under the direction di-rection of Prof Stephens They sang Tim Lost Chord and the Anvil Chorus II Travalorc The programme by the bund every number ot which was a gem and moat artistically rendered Included the march Columbus Crcatore over ture Arolbo Verdi 11 Trovatore Act IV overture Saracen Slave Mer cadantc La Flllo du Regiment Donl zottl and the American Fantnslo Herbert the lust named being a medley of American airs closing with the Star Spangled Banner and with all due re Sped to the great Sousiv it is not too much to say that the glorious anthem was novor moro splendidly rendered by oven the March King and his aggrosatlon of artists than by the Royal Italian band yesterday afternoon THE EVENING PERFORMANCE In the
