Carson City Nov March 17The twentieth session of the Nevada Legislature Legis-lature adjourned sine die at 330 p rn yesterday running five days over the fifty days time limit same ns did Its predecessor two years ago The closing clos-ing observances were after the usual old style Third house hilarity mutual mu-tual congratulations and banquets thanks to attaches etc and magnificent magnifi-cent prcsonlu of silverware spoons i canes and punchbowls to presiding officers of-ficers All went around shaking hands at parting tearfully declaring that the pleasurable heartfelt remembrances of this session and Us friendly companionship companion-ship would be forever Implanted upon their legislative memory and never be erased by any future political cussedness cussed-ness Two separate bills providing for the State revenue were presented and under un-der consideration and the leglolatlve mind was badly perplexed as to deciding decid-ing which was the most advantageous financially politically and otherwise The first was too ponderous In its incongruities In-congruities for the youthful Assemblymen Assembly-men ao after wrestling with It by spells for two or three weeks they Just quietly passed It over to the Senate where it was made short work of In lie killing The other was In the shape of an act for the morii uniform taxation taxa-tion and assessment of property throughout the State It calls for a ten days convention of all the County Assessors at Carson City on the first Monday In April nejct and on the second sec-ond Monday In January of each and every succeeding year to confer together to-gether as to the bcrt methods carry Ing out the purposes of the law the State being fixed at SO cents on each 100 ot taxable property OVER THE LIMIT Last Monday closed the fifty days pay limit of the session the five days extension since then having to be nerved without the regular a day The last session two years ago however how-ever was fiftyfive days all the same They dont seem able to get in their work properly during the fifty days and Just do penance therefor In the additional wageless days they impose upon themselves Thus it Is that Saturflay proved to belie be-lie ultimate closing day of the session Senate bill No 76 the best Stale revenue rev-enue bill which had passed the Senate came back from the Assembly with a few amendments After duo discussion and consideration the Assembly amendments wece concurred In and the bill passed to enrollment This settled the vexatious problem And opened the door to adjournment The bill was Soon enrolled and the Governor placed his signature of approval upon It with great alacrity Meanwhile the few remaining re-maining odds and ends of business on hand In cither house was rapidly disposed dis-posed of the files cleared and by mutual mu-tual agreement both houses adjourned sine die at 330 p m The evening train a couple of hours later took most of the eastern members mem-bers homeward also the members from Reno and vicinity and this mornings train took the Comsiockers Lyon Es meralda and southern county members homeward All looked relieved and forgiving for-giving toward each other and willing to have the newspapers let up on their severe and ridiculing comments and crillolspis NOT THE WORST Generally speaking this Legislature was not the worst of all They did a largo amount of useless trifling legislation legis-lation and neglected to pass measures of real financial and substantial benefit < bene-fit They passed the vetoed fire Insurance Insur-ance hill from last session right over the Governors head and when all the principal Insurance companies withdrew with-drew their business refusing to Insure any more property In the State of Nevada under the provisions of that law they persistently refused to repeal re-peal it or enact a more suitable one In its place They knocked out all the little nickel Inthcslot machines and refused to allow a public lottery but they did not repeal our famous Nevada prizefighting prizefight-ing law made in promotion of the great CorbettFItzsimmonf pugilistic contest which took place here Just four years ago today SL Patricks day of blessed memory This last proposition Is very commendable com-mendable for that immortal prizefight law is Nevadas ark of safely officially and effectually keeping away all low priced scrub or fake contests that cannot can-not afford to put up the 1000 license for the unlimited fighttoafinlsh privilege priv-ilege pertaining exclusively to Nevada And thus Jt Is that since that beneficent benefi-cent law was enacted four years ago the only fight besides the Corbett Fllzslmmons took Place last Friday between two of our mighty AsMcmbly Ui lawmakers becoming I lawbreakers lawbreak-ers It came about as follows A LITTLE SCRAP Two members from the great cast becoming overheated in the fierce discussion dis-cussion of theperplexed State revenue bill very considerately and quietly adjourned ad-journed to the hallway where they had moro room and no desks in the way They were woll matched and willing and put up as good a little scrap as has ever before been seen In thuse legislative halte Sonic excellent blows were exchanged including i I right swings and uppercuts but before the first round was concluded the sergeant atarmn and UHsItUants called time on them and made them Quit and call It a draw Sheriff Kinney HUbneciuently called on them threatening them with arrest for fighting without a license demanding the 1000 as State revenue but they demurred on the ground that they had not bpen protected from Interference In-terference and as noon as the session adjournqd they drew their pay and silently slid out for home THE INSURANCE BILL Of tho nupierous bills good
