| Show COL DODGE EXPLAINS Tells How Colorado Midland was Acquired I PLANS OF THE FUTURE l i 1 i I l Rio Grande Western and the Colorado I I Southern will Antagonize No Other Roads Boards Soon to Meat but I Until Then Nothing will be Known as to OfficersSouth Platte CutOff I is SureLocal Work Moving Along BrisklyIndependent Line from California Railroad Notes I Col D C Dodge vicepresident and general manager of tho Rio Grande I A estcrn speaking of the Colorado Mid land deal says to the Denver Repub lican The move was made by the JIbe Grande Western and the Colorado Southern to keep condition stationary It was not to gain any advantage over a rival but to keep a rival from gain lag an advantage over us and particu many over the Rio Grande Western The combining of the Interests of the three roads will not materially affect the railroad situation in Colorado The Midland road will be operated as a separate organization and In all respects re-spects for Its own Interest The property prop-erty will have the advantage of close connections with the Colorado Southern South-ern on one hand and the Rio Grande Western on the other The management manage-ment of the Colorado Midland will do nothing for the benefit of the two connecting i con-necting systems which would be hurtful hurt-ful to the Colorado Midland The Colorado Col-orado Southern even now will be able to reap some benefit from the connections connec-tions into the mountains which the Colorado Midland vl 111 afford It whllo the Rio Grande Western will be able to I maintain Its original divisions on traffic traf-fic with Its connection which under other circumstances It would not have been able to do Before the receivership of the Midland Mid-land road nn attempt was made by the Colorado Southern to purchase the Midland The Rio Grande Western officials of-ficials were approached by those oC the Colorado Southern railroad and asked to keep out of the bidding incase in-case an attempt was made to purchase the property It was llnally arranged that the Colorado Southern should have a clear field It did l not bid however how-ever owing to Its financial condition land the deal fell through Last October the Rio Grande Western I I West-ern entered the Held but Us effort to i I buy the Midland also failed These negotiations though they failed led to action by the Colorado Southern That system Immediately began buying what It could of the stock of the Midland finally coming to the Rio Grande Western with a proposition prop-osition that they buy the Midland dividing di-viding the stock equally To this the lllo Grande Western assented Having submitted the proposition for the purchase pur-chase of the entire stock oC the road to the voting trustees of the Midland Ihe voting trustees submitted the proposition prop-osition to the stockholders for their approval recommendIng the acceptance of the offer The trustees sold the Midland Mid-land stock to the two Colorado roads It is the intention of the Rio Grande Western to antagonize nobody We are now however in a position of more security than before The short line to Cripple Creek through South Platte canyon IBI think 11 certainty The plan Is most feasible feas-ible and can be put through easily If the money Is forthcoming Until the Midland property Is formally passed over however there Is no definite announcement an-nouncement to be made by us as to what will or will not be done The board of directors of tile RIo Grande Western will meet In Now York noon and will settle upon the lerHOnK to represent Its interests in the Midland Mid-land directorate Similarly the board South of directors of the Colorado ern will make Us selection As to who IB to be president I nm sure I do not know and I do not believe anybody else knows just now |
