| Show EXPERTS TO STUDY IRRIGATION Prof Elwood Mead Assisted by Prof r George L Swenson and I State Engineer Gemmell will take Interesting Investigation S Irrigation Expert Elwood Mend of the Department of Agriculture at Washington Is a guest at the Konjon with the Intention of remaining in this State for the next ten days In consultation consul-tation with Prof George L Swenson of the State Agricultural college State Engineer 11 C Gemmell other officials of-ficials Interested in irrigation A series of studies are being carried on In Utah by these officials In methods employed here to demonstrate what can be accomplished ac-complished In irrigation and the best way In which to do Iti also the difference differ-ence in quantity of water needed by different crops methods by which the greatest amounts can be spread over the farms to dctermlixv seepage and evaporation in fact they reduce the study of water handling to such a point of nicety especially as to tho duty of water that all of the phenomena phe-nomena Involved in the system of irrigation irri-gation shall become Imown to the experts ex-perts Special study has been made of the Irrigation system along the Provo river and other streams and the Intelligence Intel-ligence gleaned thereby will be of great advantage to the agricultural Interest In-terest along those streams Arthur P Stover and W B Searles have been associated with the experts In the work and have given valuable assistance assist-ance Prof fend has been In California Califor-nia pursuing the same line of Inquiry thero as here and has been encouraged encour-aged and the work facilitated by the generous policy of that State The Legislature appropriated 10000 for Irrigation Ir-rigation Htudy and of this sum 4000 was given to the Government experts to further their work In the State The Slato Water and Forest association also extended valuable aid and much good was accomplished Prof Mead calls attention to the good that may be done among farmers by study of the published bulletins of the department covering Irrigation In the Rocky mountain country One bulletin or department publication deals with water rights west of the Missouri river Another publication covers water rights along the Bear river which will interest farmers In Utah Wyoming and Idaho Ihen there are water questions In Wyoming methods of using Water in the Rocky mountain region Irrigation with fruit growers and annual reports of the department for 1899 including reports from Utah and other mountain Slater These valuable publications may be scoured free by writing to Prof Mead Choycnno Wyo |
