Show I Osceola Mining men all over the country are anxiously looking ahead for the New i Years Tribune which always contains such reliable reports of the mining situation sit-uation As we are much Isolated from I railroads and telegraphic communication communica-tion with the outside world it may be of Interest to at leant some of your Tribune Trib-une readers to see 1 brief statement concerning the Osceola mining district This district Is situated In eastern Nevada Ne-vada In White Pine county about twenty miles west of the Utah line and having Its nearest railroad point at Frisco Utah u distance of ninetysix miles over u good road and although a railroad Is much needed here our I I mall Is furnished by three different stage lines one from Frisco Utah to Eureka Nev two railroad towns a I trlweekly another route semiweekly from Ploche Do La Mar and southward south-ward and the third route from Wells via Cherry Creek and Aurum this being be-ing a Junction point I The principal formations here are quartzite granite slate porphyry shale and linv and the hills are like I unto a network of goldbearing quartz veins although silver copper lead and other metals abound The principal mining which has been carried on here up to recent date has been hydraulic or placer mining and the hundreds of thousands of dollars In gold which has been extracted from these auriferous grand deposits have established for them D reputation which needs no comment for Osceola nuggets can bo found in all parts of the country ranging rang-ing from 5000 down to fine dust and these gold deposits are practically Inexhaustible In-exhaustible Some of the gravel beds are 200 feet thick and extend miles In length and width Two large canals bring water with which to work the gravel under heavy force one ditch being fifteen and and the other eighteen miles long with discharge far above the gravel The bullion shipment the past year was light owing to an exceptionally ex-ceptionally dry season light snow In the mountains and hence a scarcity of water This helped make good the old adage of There Is no loss without some gain as It proved true during last summer here Not being able to do as much placer mining as usual miners turned their attention to quarts and the resul Is that several new corporations corpora-tions were formed and a number of valuable val-uable discoveries made in and around the district from which assay values have been obtained ranging from a trace up to 55000 per ton A twenty stamp mill was erected by the Eagle Mining company and a four months I run under the management W F Patrick with Orson Hudson as foreman fore-man has proven that there Is good merit in the property The company Is I developing their mine during winter so as to make a steady run during all of next slimmer We have reason to expect ex-pect two other companies to bo in full operation by next summer and there Is a good field open here for others The hubncrlte or tungsten discoveries discover-ies twelve miles south of Osceola was avery a-very interesting event of the year and It promises to do much for this locality lo-cality The climate here Is unsurpassed unsur-passed and the people arc unanimous In the belief that a bright future Is dawning ORSEN HUDSON |
