Show BLACKBIRD DISTRICT On the ninth day of November there passed through the streets of Salmon City Lcmhl county Ida a heavy mining mi-ning holHt for the Blackbird copper mining mi-ning district to be erected on the Brown Bear claim for the purpose ot exploiting that ground to a depth of at least MO feet This incident is only a reminder that one so deeplyInterested In the prosperity of this section shquld given you a few Items of the progress made here during the past year which when combined with that which has gone before will point unerringly to time brilliant future that looms up wjth In our sight and gladdens the heart of our entire community Hence I will commencc right In the midst of this Blackbird district winre superficial evidences ev-idences exist of a copper region that In extent and richness will equal If not eclipse any other In the United States Although the discovery of ledges In the Blackbird district carrying copper ores was made several years ago by Robert Bell which was followed up by Sam James and Joshua Brown until now there has been four or live districts laid out In the aggregate embracing not less than 200 square milts with from SIlO to 1200 claims located thero was no particular move made to excite attention in that direction until this fall Several months ago thre came hero from Boston Mass somo capitalists who when they examined and saw for themselves guided by one of time own era IDr F S Wright concluded that the appearance was sumeieimt to Justify them to take heavy risks In prospecting several of Die claims With this object In view they built a rood from the stage line passing along Big creek up the Blackbird creek lo time claims they had bonded from the doctor and his associates upon one of which the Brown Bear they are to erect tIme hoisting hoist-ing works to prospect that claim The surface showing In the neighborhood of tills claim If very flattering the veins arc large and welldefined tne one upon Which the I Initial test Is to be made Is not less than 130 feel In width This Uoslon organisation Is slyloil the lliackblrd Copper and Gold Mining company They have secured an opiion locallons and on a large number of have shown their faith in what they have seen by paying down a handsome bonus on each claim bonded Also others oth-ers have gone Into that region who hall from Boston and secured options on prominent prospects particularly Mr A J Sol fridge who has thus taken the mines nt f A T I Shane amid others of Idaho Falls This property Is on Big Deer creek near the Tinkers Pride alno other claims from Mr Doll lying neighborhood The vein In time same upon which the Tinkers Pride Is located lo-cated has a width of U0 feet and It It i P claimed will sample from 1 to 6 percent and Slmms cent copper Messrs dough arc the fortunate owners of this group It will be too wearisome to particular ise nil of the claims or even groups of the several districts that make up that superb gold nnd copper region Suffice to Hav ihatslnce companies who seem U > possess ample capital to push lo a successful termination their exploiting schemes are there with that determination determina-tion In view that soon elopmcntn will he nuido which wljl nt once attract cupltnl from widely diverging points I until a mining up oar will be created throughout the land Nothing now can slop the stampede of millionaires to time Blackbird country for the material those gentlemen are so eager after Ii certainly there True till section iS I a little remote fiom present lines of railroads rail-roads and rough In Us contour but in this age such trilling obstacles art laughed at and thrust aside when tlu object of their desire In known to exist abundantly anywhere Relative to what t T have said concerning the Blackbird 1 I have no necessity to draw but slightlY I on my Imagination for such devclop mcnlr aa mac been made In that district dis-trict in the I Uncle Sum and many othci mines evince the facts and speak for all other ledges which have not as yet been as well developed And neither does the wealth of mineral stop at tin confines of i Blackbird district Extending Extend-ing soulherly the Yellow Jacket dlslrlcl IK entered where during tIme past years development and enterprise much wealth has been revealed that most certainly will enhance the Importance Import-ance of the country Partkularly If this so In the gold discoveries and helm progress of development I The Idaho Chemical Gold Mining company an Eastern organization Is now driving a I i tunnel to tap a series of fourteen claim at a depth of 500 or COO feel This lun nel with Its lateral branches will be 20 < JC feet long Nearer the apex of the veins there Is much development work done which satisfies the company that they are Justified in undertaking this extra outlay to further lacllltate the rxtiac tion of imO for a long period ol time All of the ciojiplngs and float which is 1 very abundant show these mines to be gold for which a cyanide mfll of 100 tons capacity will be built Work on the long tunnel will be pushed wllh air I compressor drills and all under the management of Henry R Armalead Dining time past summer there has been found some very promising copper prospects in the Yellow Jacket district The fact is that this section of the L country has been prospected but very little It presents a good field for the Indefatigable prospector a S When It is considered that Lomhl county Is 10S miles long and fortyfive miles wide with only 250000 acres of Agricultural land In It and all of time rest mineralbearing the magnitude of the mineral area can be comprehended Since the first discovery of gold In the Leesburgh basin there has been located I 7000 claims including placer and quarts which was of a free nature But within with-in the past two years during the development devel-opment of vein mines and Including new discoveries mines of base ores suili as copper lead and silver to the number of 1300 have been exposed hone statistics are based upon an Inquiry In-quiry of one seut here expressly to find out Therefore I consider them reliable relia-ble Hence when one undertakes to give an Idea of our advance for even a year the dlfllcully In doing so In a newspaper article Is obvious Within the past year there limes come into very prominent notice the mines of Indian creek said creek being a tributary tribu-tary of the Salmon river about thirty miles below the town of Salmon Thereupon There-upon the Ivsses quartz claim has been erected a fivestamp mill which commenced com-menced to crush rock about the middle of October It has moved along in Its operations very successfully crushing fifteen tons of 10quartz per day The parties owning mill and mine are New Yorkers Within this district Frank Ibach has a very fine mine out of which ito has aruster d rock which yielded 70 per ton The vein Is know n HH the Kilty Burton Is ten to twelve feet wide There Is about two feel of time rich ore the remaining lowgrade part of the vein will mill something over 12 per ton Although all of the mines of our numerous camps have been doing well there has been no new machinery erected bin as the tide of mlnjng Investment has noticeably turned In our direction we can expect II large increase in such enterprise during the future Unquestionably the Idaho Midland railway coming here which Is now under contemplation will stimulate all kinds of mining propositions proposi-tions and be of a reciprocal benefit The placer mines of the county have cleaned up about as usual except thtf Moose creek placers with their large dredging machine T am told have done better than usual S o S Over on Sliver creek wherc Capt Slnglser Is the general manager there has been kept a large force of men employed em-ployed developing the mines and remodeling re-modeling the mill which vill start up very soon At this point T take the liberty of I mentioning the enterprise of two gentlemen gen-tlemen which has particularly attracted my attention of being a model for many ulhers to be guided by in their mining ventures I allude to Messrs Bausch nnd Doming About two years ago they boughta mineral the head or Freeman canyon Upon their purchase they erected a fivestamp mill which ID driven by steam This Is about all that Is known of them except that they started this mill up on very low grade ore and without any noise or ostentation ostenta-tion have with their miners and their own labor kept running as steady as clockwork forcing success through very adverse circumstances They have been even In the dull monotony of our affairs almost lost sight of But they arc there yet having paid up all debts and In the depths of their quiet solitude soli-tude possessing prosperity and drawing admonition for their steady perseverance persever-ance Truly a lesson in mining worthy of Imitation by many of our people S S SOn S-On Sage creek the < adjoining camp lo Indian creek thero Is to be erected a fivestamp mill on the Hanlan and L Buster group The old Shoe Fly mill I was purchased by a Mr MJIler for that purpose and has already been taken down the river to time mouth of Sage creek and will be gotten upon the ground as soon as the snow is deep enough to sled It In There are a great many projected en terprises that have only so far reached an incipient state Many of them as r tmiileistflhi1 nlhBin if carried through tiii be lo the point and advance the mining Interest of the county very na tonally But leaving other consUlem KTM aside die coppet niiieh we kmmow is heie and on Its account and tho almost inexhaustible Huppiv of lumber and ties the railroad mi st come ence prosperity ls the result and from the evidences given above Unit al oSS
