the ground for this modern structure was commenced com-menced during1 February 1000 and has been pushed as fast as consistent with good work from butt time to Us completion com-pletion The building Is situated on the corner of Tenth and Main streets Immediately adjoining the Sonna building build-ing It has a frontage of 75 feet on Main street and 122 feet on Tenth street It Is six stories in height aboVo the basement the two street fronts arc of native fcandstono and Salt Lake red pressed brick The architect Mr W S Campbell fays that It Is of the Scottish Scot-tish baronial style having the appearance ap-pearance of the baronial castles at the top AH tho corner rooms have largo circular baywindows which run the entire height of the building above the first story and aro surmounted on top with neat turrets and slate roofs The ilrst floor will be 3 feet G Inches above the sidewalk and the entire floor will tie of terrazzo which is a composition compo-sition of white cement and Italian marble mar-ble rubbed and polished The main entrance will be through a massive stone arch In the center of the Main street facade and the carriage or ladles la-dles entrance Is of similar design and Is In the center of the Tenth street front Steel balconies 10 feet wide extend ex-tend over the sidewalk at each of these entrances and the steps leading from the street to the main floor at till the entrances are of white Italian marble The bar will be located In the southeast corner the diningroom in the northwest north-west corner and the kitchen In the northeast corner The rotunda Is SOx 6Q feet In tho clear and the writing room Is 13x50 feel in the clear The entire first story and all the furniture will be finished in light golden quarter sawedoak The wide massive main stairway and tho passenger elevator is Immediately In front of the ladles entrance V trance The elevator has been Installed by the Otis Elevator company and Is entirely of steel there being no woodwork wood-work whatever about the elevator from the bnfoment to the sixth floor the In closuros are of steel grille work and of a very ornamental design specially made by the architect The electro liers the elevator Inclosures and the highlyornamental hardware trimmings trim-mings throughout the entire building are of a mottled sandblast finish In the basement there will be four sam plerooms a large blllardroom a handsomelyfinished barber shop with bathrooms in connection there will also be several large cardrooms The heating boilers and electrical machinery machin-ery locafcd in the basement All the baggage will bo taken In at the rear and be taken up and down In a freight olovator Immediately In front of the elevator on the second story In the ladies parlor 21x2S feet This room Is rlchlyd6corated carpeted and furnished fur-nished with the very best goods that money can buy There Is a door leadIng lead-Ing from the parlor to the steel balcony bal-cony on the Tenth street side At the north end of this floor there Is a ban quetroom 20x30 feet which is connected con-nected with the kitchen with an electric elec-tric dumbwaiter In the south end on this floor there Is a suite of four large rooms with bathroom these rooms are specially fitted up for lie United Senators They are connected directly with the bar underneath with a dumbwaiter dumb-waiter and speakingtubes and telephones I tele-phones All the other rooms on tha second and third floors are very large the smallest being 19x22 feet they arc mostly In suites with bathrooms between be-tween each suite and open lavatories In each room There are ladles and gents toiletrooms on each of lie floors Thcie Is an open light shaft that runs from the second floor to the roof and Is 13 feet wide by 50 feet in length which lights all the rooms and stairway on the cant side ort the buildIng build-Ing There are 140 rooms above the first story and there Is not one bedroom bed-room bath or toifetroom that doc not have a window opening directly to the outside The bathrooms are arranged ar-ranged between the suites of rooms on the upper stories similar to those on the second and third stories The building Is plastered throughout with the Laramle Standard Hird plaster plas-ter and to convince visitors of the S strength and quality of this plastering S the architect has invited many of them to take a plank and ram against lie icalls but It does not Injure the plaster plas-ter any It Is a roughsand finish throughout and lie plastering Is all tinted in a very artistic manner As the fire department of Boise City li rather inadequate for a building of thIn kind great cure has boon used in lie construction of the same to prevent the outbreak and spread oC fire The boilerroom and kitchen arc of strictly modern fireproof construction the floors being constructed with steel beams and concrete arches the cell ings the backs oC all the stairs the steel beams and Iron columns throughout through-out the entire building are lathed with patent metal lath There Is a firewall that runs across the center of tha building and extends two feet above the roof with only one opening on each floor and there Is a jfourinch heavy wroughtlron standplpo that Is firmly bolted onto the side of tho large brick smokestack This standplpe extends up to the roof and finished on top with a fourinch twin Lmdlow lirehydrant and there Is 100 feet of standard hose with two nozzles connected to the hydrant hy-drant ready for action with ninety pounds of pressure on the water at a moments notice There are also hose reels on every floor In a conspicuous plnco In the main hall There are seven portable lireescapes on the building these fireescapes arc the latest things out In that line The ipaln roof Is covered cov-ered with slate the halls are all eight feet wide and five of the fireescapes can be reached through windows directly di-rectly from the hall on the upper stories sto-ries Every room in the house ia furnished fur-nished with return callbells with general gen-eral lirealarm sysytem and there are fifteen telephones connecting the principal prin-cipal rooms with the ofllce Before making the plans for this hotel ho-tel the architect Mr VV S Campbell visited nearly all the uptodate hotels ho-tels between Boise City and New York city and a great many of the best features fea-tures that were adopted In the large hostelries recently built in Now York city have been adopted In arranging and constructing this building and neither pains skill nor money hae been spared to make it strong durable and modern In every respect even to the most minute details There Is now under construction an annex to this hotel which is located directly across the alley in the rear of the building This building Ig GOsoO feet and three stories high The fIrst story and basement will be used for storage and warehouse purposes and the two upper stories will bcoccuplcd by the help This building will be of tile same materials as the hotel and will have steam heat electric lights modern plumbing return callbell system sys-tem etc complete same aa the main building The Idanha hotel is a close
