power plants supply electric f energy to one large system of transmission trans-mission and distribution lines which p extend from Ogden on tho north to Sandy on the soulh a distance of fifty miles i1ml1cs The company owns over elghly miles 1 transmission lines and of hlghlenslon I Its pole lines for the distribution of Salt light and power throughout Ogden Lake arid thc surrounding district e amounts to over 100 miles In length I During the past year the company has been very successful in the sale of I i electric energy for light and power LIGHTING y In the lighting department very large sums of money have been spent on new equipment for the Improvement of the I kind of motive power could run for a month and yet these motors have been running without any trouble or cost of repairs for over two years Electric energy is being supplied in quantities from onehalf horsefruwcr to 500 horsepower for all sort of purposes among which are Included power for the smellers the cement works brickyards brick-yards flour mills for machine slups for refrigerator and brewing machinery for printing ofilces shoe factories etc I During thc pasl year the company has executed Important contracts for the supply of power on a big scale among which we mention thc contract with thc Portland Cement people who have now motors of a total caiiuclly of over 500 horsepower and also a con tract for the supply of power to smellers smel-lers In the Salt Lake valley INCREASED DEMAND demand In order to meet the increased mand for power the company has luring lur-ing Ihp past year spent a large amount of money lit the rearrangement of Its system and has now under contemplation contempla-tion the construction a reservoir In the Ogden canyon and additional wrka In the Big Cottonwood canyon whereby all the power can he obtained that is required to mecl hoped for and increasing increas-ing demands The Utah Light and Power company is now prepnled to sell additional power will be In large units and Us of the Utah Light and Power company com-pany is to keep all Its appliances absolutely abso-lutely up to date so that there Is now I and always will be a continual discard hog of old apparalus for the now wlth oul which no system can ever be kept abreast of the rapid Improvements that I arc now being made In electric light Inpr Cooking by electricity Is being gradually grad-ually Introduced here and will shortly become quite a factor In the business of tin company Today it may be said to be a luxury hut this Is so only because < be-cause the general public are not yet educated up to the advantages that can I j be obtained from the use of electric ap lara lml for cooking und smaller Intermittent inter-mittent heating such as ironing etc The company is confident that electric rooking will within the next few years f ioe put in general practice by the pro pic here Already electric llatirons are being used In many private residences and In the largest laundries In Salt Lake and Ogden and the uses to which electric heating can be put with economy econ-omy are very numerous USE OF POWER The company has hon very successful I success-ful In developing thp use of electric power
