Show t AMERICAN FORK While developments at American Fork and In the canyons that radiate from it have been provokingly modest perhaps during the year they have not been without results that arc already engaging the attention of capital ant not a few are just now sparring for footholds over there The record of the district has been tho record of many of those In which the oldtimer threw down his pick and sought new fields when he found himself confronted con-fronted with water I The result was that having skimmed the cream that gathered around the grass roots the opening up of lower 1 levels was loft to a later generation with more money if not more vitality and until italty unti more modern methods for the treatment of ores of indifferent quality were Introduced Intro-duced Nor is there tolling with any measure of accuracy Just how much of the precious metal was mined from the superficial workings of the locality The grizzled patriarch h talks garrulously garru-lously of millions that wore realized when smelter charges were at their zenith and the muleteam was the only means of transportation and of a class of silver lead and gold ores with which those of the present arc hit puniest comparisons No matter what the pioneer packed out however it is what ho left that is now interesting capital and that promises foundation for a most productive l tamp That much ore of good quality has been miiiod about Amciican Fork the spacious spa-cious stopes and the incrustations of ore left by former owners afford the best evidence and with these on which to rely the student of the present is enabled to form pretty Intelligent conclusions con-clusions as to the merits of the district AArhlle the old workings tel of achievements in the past there is an abundance of new ground on which to engross the story of the future with much of the latter put under development develop-ment during the past year Of the merits of territory which was permitted permit-ted to remain unexplored for many years developments on the property of the Caribou Mining company In 1000 afford a splendid example This property prop-erty located MINERAL FLAT was taken hold of by Rudolph All and Samuel Park and into a group of nine locations they began to drive At n distance dis-tance of 125 feet in tie tunnel they opened up the contract between the limestone and quarlzite and upon this I began to drift This was In what is known as Orphan ground and wile the 1 vein was tlc feet between walls tiree feet of highgrade ore was exposed ex-posed The extraction of this ore was promptly begun some of it showing as much as 73 per cent lead 01 ounces silver sil-ver ynrt 2 gold per ton It was not long before the bonanza chaser sought it out however and Just now it is passing into the control of Eastern talent at the head of which is none other than exGoy Tanner of Illinois The figure In wiieh it is J changing hands has not been released but at least five are required lo denominate It Over at the Silver Dipper work has piogrcssed steadily during the year just passed into history while shipments ship-ments have been settled for on a basis of 73 per cent lead 44 ounces silver and 120 gold per ton The group has been opened up by a tunnel that has been driven iulo it a distance of 350 feet on the vein and which discloses a pay streak varying from five inches to six feet TIne upper workings of the prop arty which is owned bv AV S Pierco I of this oity were operated during the i year on a lease by Richards Ferry I who erected a jigging plant and began the marketing1 of concent rates that yielded from Jfl to GO per cent Ilad l and from 25 to I ounces silver with an excess of Iron that obtained for them every concession at the smelters In I deed there Is a very Jargv volume of milling1 ore blocked out In the Silver I Dipper and facilities with which to treat It will very likely be Installed the I present season THE PITTSBURG At tIll Pittsburg in the same locality I work during the season has boon nroso ruted by AV S Pierce and 1 J Vad ley who urjdor a lens 1 succeeded in uncovering n large amount or i milling I I f ore To handle this and to put it Into cfMimorcIal form a concentrator willI i I h 1 eroded iH soon ns the weather per I II mil With ores containing as much as 60 I per cent lead l and 10 ounces silver per ton the owners of the Healey mine In the same Iqcallty have been Corning to market at irregular intervals and promise to greatly increase the output I the present year At this time there IB a foot of ore of good quality exposed ex-posed Iiva big welldefined vein and workis conInuing r regularly through Jl1A iPL THE DUTCHMAN I y a Cleveland crowd and t among those by which a i I record has boon l made was worked I during the year by SummervIIle and others who extracted and sold considerable I I consid-erable ore that averaged about CO percent I per-cent lead 10 to CO in sliver and about I S gold per ton Into tho Dutchman has been driven a tunnel about 600 feet while in a raise from this throe I feet or ore was uncovered The property I prop-erty opens the ne4 year with a most encouraging outlook and with every I assurance of an Increased output I i I The Miller another in the category of oldtimers In the districtand owned I I by Judge Baakin and others exposed I I a large body of milling ore during the I season the met llc contents cons stIng I st-ing of sliver l old and lead In theI i meantime prospecting for wellknown ore bodies has been gong on steadily i and work will go forward with as much energy in 1901 I Under the intelligent direction of I John C hud wick the Live Yankee which I was productive of so much ore in an early day shlpped steadily or at regular 1 regu-lar intervals In 1000 the ores carrying I from 30 to 35 In gold 35 ounces silver and about TiO per cent lead Under his I lease Mr Chadwick began tle opening i open-Ing up of the veins on new ground and drove about 10 feet in which distance I he exposed a nice lot of ore The Live j Yankee is still owned by Matt Cullen and Allan G Campbell SILVER AVAVE Upon thu Silver Wave grouT owned by l Charles P Brooks Richard H Brown and S IL Merrill work was re sinned during the season of 1UOO and I pushed forward with most gratifying results Indeed J a strike as sensational I as those of days on which the old i timer delights was recorded the assay I certificates testifying to the presence in the ores of from 95 to 5270 gold 30 to 92 ounces silver and 23 to 34 per cent lead Del ton These results were derived I de-rived from picked samples said Mr I Merrill although the pay streak shows as much ns five feet of ore In opening up this ore the owners drove in from the surface a distance of thirty feet I on the vein and will continue develop log along this line the present year From the Bellrophon claim which Is of the Silver AArave group a very large amount of ore has been shipped in previous pre-vious years that showed 50 uer cent lead and 50 ounces silver per ton with from 20 to 30 gold The Echo of the same group shows a well mineralized vein carrying gold silver and lead I ores as Jn the Bellrophon while Plume is traversed bv two well defined veins carrying gold silver and lead ores The pay streaks while limited in their con tents are filled with very rich ore and evidently radiate from the main ore I body for wlich the search will be re I newed the present season I AUSTIN GROUP The Austin group belonging to the John Tlornan estate has remained idle I during tire past year notwithstanding propositions made to work It and notwithstanding not-withstanding its productiveness In pre I ious years Indeed there is still exposed ex-posed In the old workings ore of iood I quality carrying gold silver and lead and the hope is expressed that If the owners ale unable to work it the pres ent year other talent will be peimitted to take hold The Patrick Henry group on Silver Bell mountain and owned by S II Merrill John Strickley and Otto Solo mon has long enjoyed the prestige of a most promising prospect ores having been i encountered at a depth of Ll feet that yielded as much iy 176 ounces silver 520 gold and fG per cent load It is the intention of the owners to re sume work on this early the present season It is understood that work on the Sil ver Bell owned by Col Shaiiffhnessy will be resumed during the present year under his direction For a long time the mine produced an ore of good quality and many look lo it for a repe tition of its early history AArlth much capital and talent eager for a foothold in the American Fork region the year should record grcatlv Increased development with a corre spondlng increase In its output There r have boon practically no failures In the locality where work was Intelligently prosecuted and while much prospect ing has been done near tire surface no one has demonstrated what is con tained In the depths |
