Show l t l FRiSCO II S J j At Frisco home of the great Horn Silver mine from which dividends amounting to 5300000 have come the previous year closed amid all the premonitions pre-monitions of a boom In 1901 and as the most Importanl in tile recent history of the camp The fcatme oC Itj5 attali ments was not so much in the value of the lead and copper silver and gold I pioduocd but In the developments that I were pro > ecutod and the foundations 1 laid for futlirc production Upon the I laying of this foundation too there wore some very daring architects For years outlying opporlunllles had been neglected and while the holghls from which they were Unfurled were generally gener-ally mineralized the average man had been unable to forge his way beyond I the shadow of the Horn Silver In several I sev-eral locallllcs work was undertaken I and at Intervals considerable development develop-ment was done Those engaged upon It however were searching for silver and load l from which metals the share holdciR of the Horn Silver had derlvcd their millions and when they failed to respond the search was abandoned They had succeeded In demonstrating the presence of copper with attendant values In silver and gold however and while they made efforts In a spasmodic way to reduce II to commercial form the processes for handling It were 1m porfect and results accordingly Again the markel for the red metal was poor and succumbing to these reverses the planlt were closed down the shops shut up and ihe owners walked Forman For-man years these old undertakings were neglected Then came the boom Jn the red melal and the reign of king copper Wllh lhat the search for it Svas renewed and the prospector found himself once more at Frisco and Its surrounding hills The results of their labor proved more encouraging with each shift and capital was not long In following Then systematic development develop-ment was begun new strikes were chronicled and the outlook of the I old camp LOWlY is as assuring as any in me State At the same lime the management manage-ment of the Horn Silver has been diligently dili-gently endeavoring to improve Its condition con-dition and lo lhat end means for the IreMlmenl of an enormous tonnage of xlncbearing ores underground and a tremendous volume of zinc tailings above have been projected There Is away a-way of accomplishing this too for It Was demonstrated by experiments during I dur-ing the past season All that remains now that the required process IB i known is a plant and unless the American Smelling and Refining company with which the Horn Silver management has been negotlallng takes the job off the hitlers hands and antlclpates the needs of all islncbearlng propositions reduction reduc-tion works will go up at Frisco this year The outlook for the old camp Is Indeed encouraging and big achievements achieve-ments are relied on In 1901 THE HORN SILVER This old proposition sold many years ago by Allan G Campbell and others to Eastern investors for 5000000 mar keled during the year 7437530 pounds of concentrates and 5287030 pounds of crude ore for which the company received re-ceived 171GM71 At the smeller there was derived from this tonnage 3C87D21 pounds of lead 113208 ounces of silver 078351 pounds of copper and 277 ounces of gold of the value of 102019 39 From the shaft which has been put to a depth of 1COO feel about 1000 feet of drifting wan done during the year and not a little time exppndcd on the cop perbearing chute that had been neglected neg-lected In former days to now become a source of steady revenue Indeed the output from this source alone amounted lo 10S5311C the tonnage shlpjled to this market showing frpm20 lo 30 percent per-cent copper If there has boon any doubt concerning the continuity of these chutes to the deep Ihls doubt has all been dissipated by developments In this bonanza The producllon of gold too showed an Increase and afforded the company 557198 while the gross value of the lead was 147500 and that of the silver SS78S The present ydar will be largely devoted to reducing the zinc contained in the ores to a source of revenue Manager Phllo T Farnsworth Farns-worth who with expert assistance made measurements of the znc ores and zinc tailings found that they contained con-tained metals of the value of over 7 000000 It is too much lo bo wasted and HO their treatment has boon decided on THE WASHINGTON In the same locallly and adjoining the Horn Sliver is the Washington com panys property which has been productive pro-ductive of several lots of highgrade silver and load ore during the year but at which the campaign was Interrupted for some Hme owing to a lack of water with which to supply the machinery The proposition Is regarded as a very likely one and operations ore now goIng go-Ing along steadily THE COPPERGOLD BELT Upon this zone during the past year the most active figure was that of Mr A B Lewis and while physically more or less diminutive Its possessor proved a stalwart Quick to detect the opportunity oppor-tunity he was equally prompt In grasping grasp-ing It and tile Imperial Copper company com-pany Was launched by him As a bun dutlon for II he had acquired over u25 acres of copperbearing territory In what Is known as Loebers canyon between be-tween Frlfico and Copper gulch In the same locality were the Massachusetts and Washington mines From the first work was most industriously prosecuted prose-cuted Open cuts were made along the vein and tunnels driven to lap them on heir dip Ore made Its appearance in every puncture and then followed the customary trial shipments the smelter returns revealing as much as 10 per cent copper and from 3 to 20 In gold with sonje silver Since then work has been going forward steadily and the present season promises I Its equipment for a steady evampaiffii of production THE ROYAL COMPANY The same talent thai exploited the founding of the Imperial company launchedthe Roval with the famous old Cactus group In Copper gulch near Frisco The Cactus had been formerly operated by a company of wealthy Parisians who did very extensive work bul who were looking for a silver and lead rather than a coppoi propo sUion By them It wafc elaborately equipped A mfll and a smelter were erected but Jn the absence of the proper processes they were disappointments disappoint-ments During the fall of 1900 these holdings with 700 acres of ground passed Into the hands of Mr Lewis and his associates and work upon the domain which covers an area of 900 acres was begun A sampling of the ore bodies shows good values In copper cop-per and gold with spme silver and bolh mill and smelter can be made lo serve the new company whenever It Is desired Indeed no proposition In the Slate Is more efficiently equipped from hoisting i lJILIlL to reduction work The new company is now engaged upon the I sinking of a Irlplecomparlmcnt shaft that will be pushed rapidly to a depth of nOO feet At the collar of the new shaft waa encouniered ore running run-ning well up In copper and tile development devel-opment of the territory from that opening open-ing wIll bo followed 1jy the nilner vlth I keenest Interest THE MAJESTIC The Majestic group of mines which bus Just been Incorporated In Chicago with Mr A B Levln mime president Is composed of the following groups The HarringtonHickory the O 1C the Old Hickory and the Vicksburg all in the vicinity of Milford and all good producers pro-ducers ja the past Vlforous work was commenced under the new manage nnenf some months since onIhe Har ringtonHickory Tho Chief developments develop-ments have been proH eutod on the 1 AdHlii where the vein has been rc optned on the nocond level and a JaVgo amount of highgrade ore extracted TIle mine Is showing auperbly The old shaft on the HarringtonHickory has been put In Hhapc and work begun on I he mine TJite jia also showing finely i I In the HarringtonHickory is an Immense h Im-mense vein of zinc lead and copper ailvcr and a little gold On Ihe Quart claim same group are extensive openings ready for sloping This group has a record of about 750 OCO already produced On Ihe O K a hoistIng plant of 35 horsepower and the necessary buildings build-ings for all purposes are being created and extensive TlevolopmontH will begin with the new year On this iamb two shafts one of 223 feel and one ot 210 feel aro aiink and a fine body of highgrade copper ore la xpoped Cam loads of ore have been shipped Iroiu this mine which returned GU per con copper with gold and sllvor The mines of this company were all extensive producers formerly but with smelter charges of 3r per toij and no allowance for copper and none for gold under 3 per ton the mines were closed down I THE BLACK BIRD V In the same locality the Franklin syndicate which bOll been operaling so extensively throughout the West du rIng r-ing the past iwo years has engaged In the development of a group of locations adjoining the Royal companys hold Ings Prospecting the ground with good results furlher work was suspended pending the procuremenl of patents for which application has now been made The ground has shown Itself very merltorloufj and Dr P A H Franklin looks forward to Us develop ment Into a very heavy producer HORN SILVER TUNNEL The properties of this company were bonded during time year to J W Wad del of Iowa who has bound himself to pay 30000 for them Thus far tim management has driven Into it for 250 feet some mineral has been cncoun U tercd and the outlook Is promising In addition to this work has been conducted on a number of prospects with very satisfactory results and av chapter of important developments arc U relied on this year Furlher north on the bolt Mr Lewis has been developing U the Old Hickory group in which has been encountered some very high grade lead concentrates From the Adclia claim In this group not a small amount of this class of n iloc i Q wfc V4 i jitin I7UCH raised while the two shafts respect lyely 200 and 300 feet In depth arc con nulng on their course In addition to this highgrade copper ore has been encountered Jn the O K into which U an Incline lias been put for over 50 feet and the outlook there is equally U grallfymg |
