Show I JORDAN NARROWS PLANT The Salt Lake City Water and Electrical I Elec-trical Power Company This company AOiich was originally Known as the Jordan River Kleetrlc Generating company was Incorportaed A A Ai O A A 100 In 1591 I with a capital stock of 500 increased 000 which was subsequently to 1000000 Chief among the promoters was Mr Charles S Wilkes of this city who at a later date was succeeded by Mr Allan Al-lan G Lamson In the management of the companys affairs It was not however until Mr A II Tarbet one of Salt Lake Citys most enterprising capitalists took hold of the property that Its success was assured Mr Tarbet desirous to back with bin wealth some Industry that would be a credit to his State readily put his money into the project and uu at once r rapid strides ere made toward the completion of the plant and early in 1S9H it wa in operation distributing power and light to the I mining camps of Mercur and Bingham The companys powerhouse Is locat about nineteen ed on the Jordan river miles south of Salt Lake City and is a substantial and well appointed structure struc-ture of pressed brick the dimensions being 50x100 feet No expense has been spared on the canals flumes pipelines I turbines and generators and the pole lines consisting of twentytwo miles to Mercur and twelve miles to Bingham Bing-ham are second to none in the country coun-try The electrical machinery comprising com-prising two f 75 Kilowatt generators M I of the Weslinghouse make the system being what is known as the three I phose alternating current All the machinery I ma-chinery is of tlie latest type and of the highest efficiency At present only two gene tors are In place but It is the tention of the company to Immediately begin the installation of two more the plant being designed for four units One of the two units yet to be Installed will be of 1000horsepower capacity and will be operated by steam The source of power is the waters pf the Jordan river the use of foursixths of the flow of which is enjoyed by this company The canal Improvements powerhouse power-house and pole lines have cost ocr 5300000 and the concern should pay handsome returns on the Investment Mr A H Tarbet is the president Mr W S McCornick vicepresident and Mr Joseph Geoghegan secretary The general manager is Mr James G Doolittle and the general superintendent superintend-ent Mr John L Maginnis The offices are in the Houston block adjoining the elegant suite of rooms occupied by Mr Tarhet |
