| Show AMEXS STORY Yesterday the Interest in the case of Henry Allen charged with the murder greatly increased of William Wickham was geaty creased a it was expected the defendant defend-ant would occupy the witness chair The defense resumed yesterday morn resume ing by puting on a number of witnesses wit-nesses to testify to Wickhams general reputation as a quarrelsome vindictive dangerous man Among them were C I Graves Abe Levy Ed Auth James Hayes Jim White Ben Douglass Oscar Os-car Coach George Malon 11 Hassell Fred Bruning and Mr Lee The testimony given by James Cash more at the coroners Inquest was read he being in Colorado The vital fact therein was that he saw Wickham pickup pick-up a brick before leaving the saloon He had previously asked Allen his name in a threatening manner The defendant took the stand and testified about as follows On his leaving the saloon that night Wickham had asked him roughly what his name was and he had told the questioner that it was none of his business His horse had been left standing when he entered the saloon and the animal was gone when he went out He started to look for I and caught a glimpse of the buggy top crossing Twentyfourth street on Grant avenue He started down Grant avenue after the horse Just at the corner of Electric avenue Wickham accosted him and said with an oath Ive got you at the same time drawing back his hand and hurling hurl-ing a brick at him The defendant threw his hand up and his head down the brick grazed his hand knocked off his hat struck the bill board rebounded bIl and struck I him on the ankle He picked it up and I saw Wickham about to throw another I brick at him and heard him repeat his threat Just here the witness threw his brick and struck Wickham but did not think he had seriously hurt him He went on after the horse Crossexamination failed to bring out any other material facts Juror Grundy continued to grow worse and two physicians were unable to check the oramps At 5 oclock it was agreed to adjourn court leaving the juror In charge of a bailiff and physicians and keeping the other jurors together as before |
