| Show THE THIRTYSIXTH DAY No Time Was Wasted in the House TWO BILLS WERE PASSED PETBTIOfiS ON THE POLICE AXD FIRE DILL Measure Introduced Br Taylor Providing Pro-viding For the Taxing of Leg cies Second Animal Report of thp Board of Medical Examiners The Revenue Bill The house has at last really got down to business in dead earnest each member mem-ber seeming to vie with the other in a race t see who shall lead in punctuality punctu-ality and attention to business The result is that few members are absent from their seats at roll call and the order or-der of business is gone through with dispatch and in a businesslike manner which promises good results for the remaining days of the session The house wound up its affairs fa the day again yesterday in a very rapid manner and while the volume of business busi-ness transacted was not great still considerable was accomplished Two bills were passed one to be sent to the senate and the other to the governor gov-ernor for approval They were H B No 107 relating to the right to appeal from United States supreme court commissioners courts and S B No 50 amending existing statutes in relation to leins on real property Among the other business which came up was the introduction of three petitions tions from Weber county asking for the repeal of the fire and police act THE PROCEEDINGS In the regular order of business petitions tions were presented by Mr Curtis two coming from Ogden with 125 signatures signa-tures and one from an outside precinct cinct of Weber county with 53 signatures signa-tures for the repeal of the fire and police po-lice act Mr Murdock Introduced a claim in favor of James L Murdock J H Fraughton and Chauncey Lee for 300 for services in criminal cases I was referred to the board of examiners The judiciar committee reported favorably fa-vorably on senate bills 54 and 25 and H B 107 and adversely upon H B 105 All four reports were adopted The speaker signed H B No 66 extending ex-tending the time of redemption under sale for taxes The committee on contingent expenses expen-ses reported recommending the payment pay-ment of bills amounting to 33110 The report was adopted The speaker signed H J M No1 praying congress to annex to Utah certain cer-tain portions of Arizona TO TAX LEGACIES I Mr Taylor introduced H B No 112 providing for the taxing of legacies gifts and inheritances in certain cases The salient feature of the bill is a provision pro-vision which prescribes that all legacies lega-cies gifts or inheritances to the amount of 500 shall be exempt and that a tax of 5 per cent shall be levied upon every 100 exceeding that amount RIGHT OF APPEAL On third reading and final passage H B No 107 received the final sanction sanc-tion of the house without opposition I provides that in all cases in the United Uni-ted States and supreme court commissioners commis-sioners courts in which judgment was rendered and in which the time to appeal ap-peal had not expired January 2 the right of appeal is extended fifteen days thus making that period thirty days RECOMMITTED S B No 25 came up but as some of the judiciary committee had not had an opportunity to pass upon I and there was a constitutional question or requirement involved the vote by which the bU failed to pass was reconsidered and the bill recommitted to the judiciary judi-ciary committee LIENS S B No 54 passed without opposition opposi-tion Following is the bill as it will go to the governor An act to amend section 3414 s 552 of Volume I compiled laws of Utah relating to the liens of judgments on real property Be it enacted by the legislature of the state of Utah Section 1 That section 2414 s 552 of Volume I compiled laws of Utah 18SS be and the same is hereby amended as follows towit By striking the word district out I of said section and substituting In lieu and place thereof the following words County in which the judgment is given made and entered Sec 2 This act shall take effect upon its approval DENTAL EXAMINERS The second annual report of the board of dental examiners was submitted submit-ted by his excellency and referred to the committee on public health REVENUE BILL Mr Bolltho chairman of the ways and means committee gave notice that a subcommittee had been selected which would meet at 10 oclock dally in the house for the purpose of drafting I the revenue bill He desired that any I members having suggestions which they wished considered to submit them at these meetings The house adjourned |
