| Show LIFE IX THE JUNES Activity of the District Around Bnker City I Mr A Gciser manager of the Bonanza Bo-nanza mine forty miles west of Baker City Ore who has been in the city I a guest of the Imperial for several days left last evening for San Francisco Fran-cisco says the Oregon Oregonian where he will order a ten stamp mill to add to the mill of the same capacity already in operation in his mine Speaking Speak-ing of the mining interest in his section sec-tion of the country Mr Geiser yesterday yes-terday said I dont think the people In Portland Port-land appreciate the importance of the mineral wealth in Eastern Oregon especially es-pecially in Baker county We have a rich mineral belt in that county and the several mines are now actively at work getting out and crushing ore The best illustration I can give you of the situation is by saying that today to-day there are about seventy stamps dropping in the various mines of that section and within the next sixty days there will be an additional 120 stamps put in to meet the demand 4 I suppose the several mines east and wet of Baker city now give work to about 1000 men The ore is all highgrade milling from 12 to 15 a ton of free gold AIr themines are adding 1 ad-ding to their plantS The Excelsior I I and Eureka mines Cracker Creek leased leas-ed mines are now running successfully and they are putting in an additional twentystamp mill The North Pole mine owned by London capital and running a tenstamp mill contemplates adding an eightystamp mill The Kelly Allen mine discovered last fall and worked successfully with a three stamp mill was sold to Denver mi sld parties par-ties last week who are putting up a I tenstamp mill The BaisleyElkhorn mine has a fortyton plant which is running to its full capacity All these mines are west of Baker City On the east side the White Swan mine has been started again with a tenstamp mill while the Virtue mine in the I same district is a good producer with i a twentystamp mill I |
