T TP further privilege or obligation as it may tie regarded to take a supplementary supplement-ary issue of a like sum I also trdn tirpd that the syndicate ha been large Ij over subscribed that foreign interests 1 ae taken part in the operation to an LBlcnown amount and that banks and ifiunions throughout the country as T 1 as in this city have shown marked tidiness to surrender their gold holdings l jr a share in the new bonds These de iclopments have checked the depressing Iruiuonces that affected the stock marKet and caused a very strong undertone to master itself I he street is fully aware of the reason p IT the delay in making public announce ment of the bond issue I Is fully ap lifosatod that the senate must b ali al-i rntd an opportunity to act upon the bond bill which passed the house of rep xsentatives last week There seems to rntates IP no doubt that the senate committee v inch is dominated by the silver men will t uncart the bill into a free silver coinage measure The report of the committee i is concluded will be signal for action by IP administration in regard to issuing 1hl hands and thismay carry the opera tion over till next week At the same tame there is no evidence that the Morgan tlml syndicate has made a definite contract with The treasury and the price at which the bonds will be taken is also unknown I tendon has not been an important I which have Influenced all business Wheat producers suffered in like manner from wild speculation specu-lation which prevented the exporting ot many million bushels and false reports which encouraged farmers to keep back their grain until the cream had been taken off the makd by speculators I I New York Jan Bradstreets tomorrow tomor-row will say The week which ends 1893 I and uohcred in 1S9S has been vary dull Iin mercantile circles as Is usual at this neriod Tha volume of business ha fallen fal-len away sharply owing to the new years holiday and the quiet in trade circles at a time when stock taking and preparing samples for commercial travelers trav-elers are taking the attention of jobbers job-bers and commission houses A slackening activity In some important import-ant manufacturing lines is also noticeable notice-able Telegrams from mercantile centers report slow orders the exception being at i a few points in southern states Jobbers in leading lines at many centers are conn dent as to the outlook for trade in the near future although in instances fears are expressed of an unfavorable effect due to inability io secure necessary leg islation on financial questions I Exports of wheat and flour both coasts of the United States this week amount to 395731 compared with 3 I 142000 In the corresponding week last year and 3196000 in the week two years ago T Dewitt Cuyler one of the directors The trouble cams through the outside operations of J R Ritter who has charge of the companys real estate department He is said to have floated a series of drafts in the Tradesmans National Bank for aNew a-New York man Two weeks ago President Clay gave the Tradesmans bank a bond of IoOWO to in demnify against loss This bond was I given without the knowledge of the directors di-rectors and when the board learned it they repudiated the action and decided to make an assignment in order to learn the true condition of the company The examination of the bank shows that the assets are all right The assignment was made jointly to Efflngham B Morey president of the Qirard Trust company and Colonel Cuy ler Mr flitter is said to have been dealing deal-ing in stock of the Indianapolis Traction I company which declined recently from 58 to 24 It is rumored the cashier of the big banker who was operating with flitter was forced to resign The Solicitors Loan The former cashier J A McKee of the Tradesmens National bank is said to have caused Bitters drafts for 293000 to he cashed In consequence of his connection con-nection with the latters speculations he necton was recently compelled to resign flitter is lying at the point of death T D Cuyler stated that Mr Ritter was using his own money in his speculative specu-lative ventures but Mr Cuyler was unable un-able to say in view of this statement why President Clay gave the 150000 I bond to the Tradebmens bank I After the board of directors had repudiated re-pudiated the bond the Tradesmens bank have been heavy sales in California and territorial wools and of nearly all the varieties of foreign merinos I I Coarse or carpet stock is dull The boom started at the end of last week was caused by manufacturers wishing wish-ing to cover orders with purchase of material I ma-terial before any possible change in the tariff Not for four years has there been I r ngl ord ei so general a demand from a sagging tendency in prices during the greater part of today and the speculative movement was sluggish The suspense is growing acute in financial circles in regard to the proposed bond issue a the matter had been expected to h closed by this time The same condition applies to almost all other branches of Wall street business which are rendered unsettled by the protracted delay on a question of such decided interest In-terest Conflicting reports of exports of gold from this country uncertainty regarding regard-ing the probable of the te course money and commercial markets and the liquidation in American securities in London due to the Transvaal imbroglio and other causes all contribute to the disquiet of local dealers and investors Foreign cables came lower previous to the opening here stronger and sold up fully ie The indifferent cables and the continued uncertainty of a favorable solution of the financial problems now before the country were the early weak influences But there was
