Show PROMPTLY AT NOON TODAY Then Will Be Written the Magic Words Grover Cleveland UTAH MENS MOVEMENTS They Will fake Another Call Upon the President A Scramble For the Pen With Which the Proclamation Will Be Signed Today Delegate Cannon Once More Becomes n Private Citizen Representative Allen and His Plans I etcher Cordially Reedy ed By the President and Mrs Cleveland Special to The Herald WASHINGTON Jan 3Utah men now in Washington will again wait upon President I Pres-ident Cleveland They will meet tomorrow morning at 10 oclock and proceed in a body to the White House In the party will be Governor Gov-ernor West Delegate Cannon Represen tativeelect Allen who arrived at the Tibbitt house today Junlus F Wells of Salt Lake who registered at the Shore ham hotel tonight from New York and Utah Commissioner Letcher They declare de-clare they do not go to remind the president that tomorrow Saturday i the day that he ha promised to admit Utah to the Union but merely to pay I their respects to the president and lend to the affair a little ceremony comporting with dignity of thegreat occasion I is expected that promptly at noon tomorrow the proclamation will be signed by the president Several ambitious Utah gentlemen gentle-men are anxious to secure the pen with which President Cleveland makes Utah a member of the Union Fran Cannon says Thurber promised it to him and one other gentleman declares that no less a personage than Grover has promised to give it t him I is suggested by one facetious individual that the president use several pens in forming the letters of his name s that each of the patriots can secure the muchcoveted instrument Utah Commissioner Letcher has been visiting In Virginia for several days but assured The Herald correspondent that he called on President and Mrs Cleveland New Years day and that both the host ana hostess of the White House were very cordial in their reception and offered many congratulations t the Utah people on the near approach of statehood Tomorrow at high noon Frank Cannon Can-non becomes functions officio He will not return to Utah at once but will spend several days in New York he says business looking after his electric power Mr Allen the new representative said tonight he was not sure whether he would take his seat immediately The House does not meet again until Monday Mon-day and his credentials have to be signed by the new governor and secretary secre-tary of the state of Utah and they cannot can-not reach here until Wednesday or Thursday provided they are signed tomorrow to-morrow immediately after the proclamation proclama-tion is issued I is possible however that he may be allowed to take the oath of office a a matter of courtesy There are precedents for this Mr New lands of Nevada was seated before his credentials arrived If there is an objection in Mr Allens case he will not insist but the nation will have to dispense with his wi wih services until the papers arrive For this reason he hopes that Governor Wells and the secretary will give this matter their prompt attention tomorrow upon receipt of the bulletin announcing that Utah has been admitted to the Union |
