Show 1ctLOCAL LOCAL WHEEL NOTES Big Bill Rishel acting as the representative repre-sentative of the amusement committee of the pioneer jubilee commission is arranging a series of bicycle races for jubilee week The races will be given at Becks and to all adherents of the L A W it will be pleasing to learn that by order of George Brastow the Utah representative of the national racing board of the L A W the embargo em-bargo which has been on the track for the past two seasons will be raised during the week the races are given and that the league will protect the riders who enter Cash prizes amounting amount-ing in value to 500 or 600 will be held upand the assurance Is given that the best professional and amateur riders of Colorado Montana Wyoming Idaho and Utah will participate The pro gramme as now outlined will consist of four professional six amateur and a dozen or more freeforall events C P Stein chief of the Utah division of the racing board of the L A W is also taking an active interest and will do all in his power to make a success of I the races The track will Immediately I be put In condition and scratch races will be given from time to time before jubilee week In order to incite Interest Inter-est In a sport which has languished because of the difficulties heretofore existing between the management of the track and the L A WAn < < SAn > < iAn > i-An effort is being made to establish I here a branch of the seceders or that portion of western wheelmen that broke away from the L A W in order to have Sunday racing All of the lrms and nearly all the riders In Salt Lake are supporting the old organization < v < < S > T Jensen the splendid young racer has issued a challenge to ride unpaced any man in the state for from five to twentyfive miles riders to start on opposite sides of the track under L A W auspices < 2 > < I > < > Aolger Jensen the kid who was the Idol of the track two seasons ago challenges any Utah rider for one mile unpaced under L A W auspices 1 < > < t > M Collinson jr challenges W P Fottler for a race either a quarter half or mile competition totake place at Becks track not earlier than July 22 under L A W auspices 9 v Messrs Rishel Butler and the Saltalr engineer will start out on Monday to set the stakes for a bicycle path from Saltair to the city Work Is already under way at the other end < v < s > < 3 > The Union Wheel club will have a I t < run to Chase park CentervlIIe today leaving I O O F hall at 10 a m < j > < J > < s > N A Spencer has been appointed by Chief Consul Butler as acting scene tarytreasurer for the Utah division L A W S > s |
