Show THAT PRINTING CONTRACT THE AWARD MADE BY THE CODE COMMISSION Grant H Smith Says it Went to the Nebraska House Because it Was the Lowest by Thousands of Dollars I Dol-lars iI I i Allusion having been made In last evenings News to the matter of the bids for the printing of the report of the code commission and the laws passed at the last session of the legislature legis-lature strictures having been made that the bid was let to outside parties at the expense of home talent a Herald Her-ald reporter last evening hunted up Grant H Smith a member of the code commission for Information Mr Young is ou of town and Mr Lee Is in Ogden Mr Smith said there were bids received re-ceived from St Louis Lincoln San Francisco and Salt Lake and that in every instance the outside bidders were far and away the lowest The St Louis bid the Lincoln bid and the San Francisco Fran-cisco bid were all within a few hundred hun-dred dollars of each other and were lower than bids received from this city For instance the bid of the News was about 12000 while the Tribune was about 11000 The Utah Lithograph company had a bid in which was a few hundred different from the Lincoln house to which the contract was awarded Their bid vms in the neighborhood of 6000 or about half the amount of the News biu That was the reason the commission gave them the preference AH things considered con-sidered the commission thought it had done the best when It gave the contract to the Lincoln people and had no apologies apol-ogies to make for its action |
