Show I DAUGHTERS OF THE REVOLUTION I Humorous Discussion a Feature of Closing Session Washington Feb 26Thls was the closing day of the meeting of the seventh sev-enth continental congress of the Daughters Daugh-ters of the American Revolution Mrs Mary S Lockwood was elected to the editorship of the monthly magazine the organ of the society Some discussion of a humorous nature followed the introduction of what was known as the latter business which I referred to the matter of ancestral bars worn above the insignia of the society and supposed to represent the ancestors of the wearers who served in the revolution revo-lution It was participated In by Mrs Swift of California Mrs Mills New York Mrs Barbour Brooklyn and I Mrs Hooper Massachusetts One of I the speakers remarked that it was a furny thing that some of the patriots wore the ancestral bars not only for I their forefathers of revolutionary fame but also for their foremothers Nothing I Noth-ing was done about the matter and it I was allowed to lapse The report tgf the committee on the I amalgamation of the Daughters of the Revolution and the Daughters of the American Revolution was read by Mrs Elizabeth N Alexander It expressed the hope for consolidation of the two orders and the outcome of the discussion discus-sion which followed It Is expected will be the appointment of a committee to arrange a meeting of the representatives representa-tives of the two organizations A touching incident just before the adjournment of the morning session I I was the presentation to Mrs Stevenson of a silver loving cup the gift of the scciety for which Mrs Stevenson returned re-turned her thanks A motion was adopted that the society so-ciety be represented at the coming Paris exposition |
