Show I AlMOST DROWNfD I OLD MRS POUBVALLEE FALLS INTO JORDAN CANAL II I I Rescued By M NewmanTaken t the County Infirmary Where She I Being Cared For Yesterday morning about 230 oclock Mr Newman who lives at 812 Ninth I East street was startled by hearing screams coming from some place near his house He ran out to see what was the matter and found that the cries came from the direction of the I canal which runs a short distance from the house Running over to the place he found an old woman struggling I iabout in the icy water of the canal He waded into the water and pulled I the woman from the canal She was about 73 years ft age and was in i avery I a-very precarious condition when he car ned her to his house She was half drowned and almost frozen but after careful attention she was soon in a I cheerful condition I was learned that she lived near the place and had gone I out to see a neighbor early in the evening even-ing In the darkness she lost her way and wandered about until she accidentally accident-ally fell Into the canal She gave her name as lr H Four valler and said that she was living all alone She yas Very poor and had a hard time to keep body and soul together to-gether Mrs Whipple of the county infirmary was notified and went immediately imme-diately to the house lr Fourvaller was then removed to the infirmary where she will be taken care of When seen last evening she was feeling very cheerful and thanked lr Whipple devoutly for taking her in She seemed to be suffering none from the ducking she had received |
