Show I RATE AR IS NOW ON TransMissouri Roads Take a Hand III the Fight 1 EFFECTIVE NEXT SUNDAY j tI I t ST u BATES APPLY FHO2I j J I THE RIVER A J j Oregon Short lane Doing a Very i Heavy Alaska Business Despite I Lower Rte On Northern Lines Rio Grande Western Gets a Good Share of the Traffic New South ern Pacific Officers Notes and Personals Other Railroad News Th3 railroad rate war is now on and i after March C the transMissouri roads i will be competitors for Alaska business with the Canadian Pacific the Great I Northern and Northern Pacific The news was first received in this city by General Traffic Manager Eccles and was later confirmed by the news dispatches which give further details The press report is as follows Chicago Feb 26At the meeting of I the general passenger agents of the western roads here today to deVise ways of conducting the transcontinental I transconti-nental rate war the transMissouri roads gave notice that beginning March C they would put into effect to north I Pacific coast points from the Missouri river gateways the same rates as are now in effect via St Paul For parties of three or over they will make pate31 rate On single tickets they will charge full fares giving the passenger a rebate order for 20 payable on reaching destination des-tination This view disposes of the question of meeting the cuts through the Missouri river gateways A committee f com-mittee was at once appointed to prepare 1 pre-pare a plan of action for the roads east 1 of the Missouri river to pursue The I report of this committee will be con I Irpr lfnnrnv I The meeting today declined to take anj action on a proposition coming from the Canadian Pacific road through a trunk line committee for a settlement of the matters in dispute In effect ths proposition was that all rates should be restored March 1 and be maintained pending the result of 1 conference to be held March 17 Thee Great The-e and Northern Pacific roads would not consent to entertain the proposition because it involved afresh a-fresh recognition Jf Canadian Pacific differentials and restored to the Canadian adian Pacific all the advantages i possessed pos-sessed on that point prior to the rate war The other roads would take no action on the subject until they hearjl from their eastern ally the Grand Trunk They recommend the Trunk line committee to submit the proposition to that road for an expression of opinion on the subject and when it is heard from the western roads will then be in a position to take action in the matter There was a proposition on at onetime one-time during the discussion yesterday to apply the Missouri river rates to Colorado Col-orado common points and local pass s nger men were wired for their views hn h were against the plan The fight vill now be on in good earnest |
