Show = AN ANGUISHING SIGHT Fireman Knickmayers Reflections On the Charleston Fire Charleston S C Feb 26irs Knickmayer who with six other people peo-ple perished in last nights tenement house fire here Is the wife of Theo Knickmayer a carpenter who is also a call man in the fire department The others burned are all Knickmayers children except the ONeills who are his brotherinlaws Last night Mr Knickmayer was on watch at the fire engine house at the corner of Meeting and Wenttvorth streets When the alarm came in he was among the first to get off to the scene and as he turned turn-ed Into Church street he saw to his horror that It was his own house and his heart stopped Still as he thought of his family on the third floor he rushed Into the building to see the police po-lice dragging out his children black burned and dead In the meantime the engines were playing on the flames and the fire was soon checked The building was gutted but the damage will not be very great The coroner Is now holding an inquest In-quest over the victims |
