Wonmans Club What Constitutes Morality In Fiction Fic-tion was the subject of the lecture delivered by Prof George M Marshall before the Womans club last Tuesday afternoon After a careful resume of the principles that determine what Is literature and what is not Prof Marshall Mar-shall dealt with the title qquestion He said that literature including fiction which leases one or has the effect of Inspiring the individual to higher thought and action would be called moral and that which has the effect of depressing one or of giving the thought or emotions a downward tendency would be immoral Prof Marshall Illustrated this principle strikingly by saying that he had heard I immoral sermonssermons that although al-though the motive Impelling them was high and ennobling created by the manner of their presentation a sensation I sensa-tion of depression rather than one of Inspiration On the other hand hooks i dealing with matters and natures naturally na-turally repulsive may be so dealt with as to bring Into action only the best and highest tendencies of mind and heart The next meeting will be held Tuesday Tues-day Feb 2S The topics to be presented pre-sented at that meeting are
