Show UTAH WOMfH AT WASHINGTON SUCCESSFUL I THEIR DEFENSE OF UTAH Express Their Gratitude to Susan B Anthony and Belva A Iiockwooc Mrs Cards Address M Cs Addre Special Correspondence Washington D C Feb 21The Utah women who attended the Worn ans Council here were brilliantly suc cessful their efforts to defeat bigoted and radical resolutions aimed at Rep resentativeelect Roberts and at the state of Utah They cheerfully acknowledge their deep Indebtedness to Susan B Anthony and Belva A Lock I wood both of whom helped in the successful suc-cessful battleroyal against the minority minor-ity resolutions which contained the attack at-tack on Roberts During the convention Mrs ZIna Young Card of Salt Lake delivered an address on Mother and Child which was well received She began her remarks re-marks with some truths and underlying facts concerning the responsibilities of the mother to the child She referred tenderly to the mothers who toiled and hoped and waited in the palatal homs I of the rich in the apartments of a fiat in the farm houses of the valley and in the cabin on lonely prairie and mountain moun-tain fastnesses Each mother was answering swerins the call of God and her own conscience as best she might She also referred to the great mother heart of Miss Susan B Anthony which had made the magnificent gathering possible pos-sible and continued I might be thought by some that the home life of women engaged in the various lines of work rcoresentet by this Council would deteriorate and decay through the active public labors of the mothers But such was happily not the case There are no better wives no wiser mothers in America than are the thousands of women who labor side by side to save their own and their neighbors children The mothers of this council are studying with deep heart throes to feed not only their own little tender lambs but to seek as well for slieea of other folds that not one may be lost Not lesS a mother but more a mother is the germ thought of the council She said she rejoiced In the interchange inter-change of love and sympathy manifested manifest-ed in this assebly and felt sun it argued ar-gued and augured happy omens for the future conversion of many a damn where the Council light had not as yet penetrated The study of the child now so popular popu-lar among many educators must be supplemented by the study of the I mother Then cause and effect would Join forces and march on to victory The speaker closed with a pretty I story nf rhllrl life |
