Show I OGDEN J3 BIG EN ATION Prominent Business Men Arrested Ar-rested for Grand Larceny A STOCKHOLDERS QUARREL Books Tallied at 15000 Seized and Carried Off Work Commenced on the New Southern Pacific Shops Judge rations Trip Death of A J Kershtuv an Old Resident OGDEN Jan 5This afternoon Sidney Stevens Sidney O Stevens C F Grout W W McFarland William Pierce and I A Y Ross were arrested charged with grand larceny and an additional charge of burglary may be made They were arraigned ar-raigned before Judge Cross and released on 500 bonds to await a hearing on Tuesday Tues-day Tho trouble is the sequel to the disagreement dis-agreement between the officers and stockholders stock-holders the four South Ogden companies com-panies organized for the purpose of conducting con-ducting a commercial manufacturing improvement building contracting I mercantile and real estate buisness On Dec 14 part of the stockholders of the South Ogden Mercantile company i representing twothirds of the stock j held a meeting and elected new officers Sidney Stevens president and Sidney O Stevens secretary and treasurer refused to vacate and last week the latter and C F Grout entered the store of the company com-pany and took possession of the books Their arrest for petit larceny followed and the books were returned I Two suits for restraining orders were I planted in the district court against Solomon C Stephens and J J Hill representatives of the opposing factions fac-tions On Thursday Judge Miner dissolved dis-solved one of the temporary restraining orders made to prevent the defendants from entering the store of the company or meddling with the books This morning the remaining case should have been called for hearing but the plaintiffs did not put in an appearance they were at the store building in South Ogden opening the safe and extracting the records which were valued at 15000 representing accounts to that amount An entrance was effected through the skylight After the arrests had been made Judge Cross issued a search warrant and the books were found in the safe of Sidney Stevens at his place of business JUDGE PATTONS TRIP President Patton of the chamber of commerce is expected to return from San Francisco this morning The judge left Ogden for the coast on Monday to attend to some special and very important business busi-ness in connection with the Southern Pacific Pa-cific shops Resident Engineer Fitzgerald of the Southern Pacific has received a dispatch from headquarters to let the contract for the foundation of the buildings Today a force of men were put on to excavate for the walls and work on the rockwork may commence the firot of next week Andrew J Kershaw an old resident died this morning his residence The funeral will take place on Sunday The I deceased was 64 years of age |
